Montblanc Star Review

Okay, I really love montblanc watches, the heritage is a awesome timepiece, but let’s talk about the entry level watches that Montblanc produces.

The first entry level luxury watch I could afford was this Montblanc, the star date (quartz version) and I was really happy about that, but since I started using I noticed that the watch itself looks very simple for its price.

Retail: 1.9k

Gray market: ~1k

In this price range you can get a beautiful mechanical watch with better quality. Don’t get me wrong I really enjoy quartz watches, but 1.9k for a minimalist quartz machine, let’s get real here. It’s not worth the price.

if you’re lucky enough to find a machine like that for 500 bucks then buy it with no doubt, it’s a good piece, but overpriced in my opinion.

Another good topic is the strap, it’s a good quality leather strap, but again in this price range I expected a deployant, but it’s not. Well you can change it if you want.

The movement is a MB 21.01 with a date window complication, and that’s it. It’s reliable and durable, but changing battery is a pain.

Well, at least we have a saphire cristal right? You’re right, it’s a pretty good anti-reflex saphire.

The case is very easy to scratch, so be careful when opening to change batteries or you will leave some marks.

That’s it, I don’t have a lot of things to say about this timepiece, it’s good but overpriced.

This is my first review, so if you want to receive more of my opinion, follow me, for more reviews of good quality watches. (Sometimes not that high quality haha)

I'm with you! That's a LOT of money for a quartz date.

Tough, but fair review. I think that Montblanc will be a player in the luxury market.  There will be some hiccups along the way. This might be one.  The "Heritage" in the Heritage Collection seems to come from the Minerva movement, which this doesn't have.

On the positive side, you could have spent this much on one of their pens and you wouldn't know the time or date.

For 1900 I think is best to go homage or something that looks like it.

I think these couple of watches are a great value:

thanks for your review.  i do not own this MB Star Quartz, have never handled it before, but i beg to differ in your views about the pricing.

firstly, there are many luxury watch brands that produce Quartz watches, such as Cartier, and movement is secondary to the excellent design. what i like about this watch is that it has such a beautiful and elegant dial - the guilloche is beautiful. i love the applied breguet numerals and leave hands - reminds me of the Patek Calatravas, but this is clearly Mont Blanc Star design and hence to me it is a great watch. the brand, design and quality are enough to justify the price you have paid imho.

Disclaimer: I own a Mont Blanc Meisterstuck Chronograph 7016 automatic and hence I may already be biased towards the brand. Personally I think MB makes beautiful watches and looking at their latest releases as seen in W&W2022 I was really awed.

It's a gorgeous watch for sure, and I agree with you, Montblanc makes some awesome luxury watches.

Excellent review, thanks. It's hard to tell from your pic - is that a croc/gator strap? If so, I think $1k or so is about right for a nice looking watch from a luxury brand. Yes, it's quartz but a basic 2824 or SW200 doesn't add that much value IMO.

Thank you for the review 👍

Would love to see more pictures next time ❤️

They should stick to pens.

·

Agree completely. The Heritage line is fantastic but maybe a step up. The star date is a great start!

That is a beautiful dial. I love the Arabic numerals. The hands are fantastic and the Montblanc star on the second hand is really cool.
