Does this sound like a dead battery?

I recently bought a vintage tag heuer night diver a bad ass watch worn by James Bond himself in “the living daylights” but with PVD coating. It’s a quartz. When I got the watch it was running and I wore it for a few days but then put it down for a few weeks because I was loaned a watch to review for my YouTube channel ( watch and unwind ) and wanted to spend time with that. When I returned to the night diver it has stopped but I reset the time and it began to tick again. I wore it for 2 days and it ran smooth and accurately so I sent it back down. Now 3-4 days later I looked at it again, it again stopped ticking so I reset the time and again it started back up. Seems weird to me because if the quartz was dead shouldn’t it just be dead? Is it something else I should worry about?

I would take it to a watchmaker to take a look at the movement. It sounds like there is something that is blocking it from running when it is in the down position on your table or watch stand. There could be a loose part that shifts around when you move it to wear it on your wrist, there could be some dirt in the movement that is loose, there could be some corrosion around the battery, or it could be a weak battery. Lots of things could be causing it.

Thanks for the insight Robert I’ll have to bring it by a watchmaker. It’s such a cool watch I want to make sure it runs properly. Alaska is an amazing place but one of the downsides is a big lack of watchmakers and watch stores in state and we’re pretty much land locked out like an island

I'm not sure where you are in Alaska. I know there are several in the Anchorage area, but that may be way too far from where you are. You could always try getting a new battery and opening it up and blowing out any loose stuff from inside the case, pop the new battery in and see if that will work for you. I'm not sure how comfortable you are opening it up.

Apparently this watch uses the 7 Jewel design movement from eta either it's 955.112 or 955.114 and could be easily changed. Also not an expensive movement but according to many it's very reliable

They are very reliable. I have an old 1986 Tag Heuer Professional 3000 that my daughter has since "stolen" from me because she loved it. Its quartz movement has never been touched except for battery changes, and it still runs strong and is very accurate. Hopefully, you will figure out what's going on with it. It's a beautiful watch that I had my eye on for a while before I got a 2020 Aquaracer.

I think that problem consist very likely in battery, usually that's the behavior of weak battery

I just read somewhere that Obama had one of this watches on his campaign 😀

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking but figured I’d check in here just to make sure I’d hate to change the battery then have to do something else too. I heard that too but mine is the night diver edition so it’s even cooler than his

They look good, I've always liked Tag Heuer very much. Btw, regarding that moon landing podcast, do you have something new because I read something interesting that according to a 1999 Gappup poll, 6 percent of the United States believed the moon landing was faked, while about 89 percent believed otherwise. Claims of forgery are denied by prominent scientists, technicians and engineers, as well as by NASA and its astronauts. I would be interested if they did the survey nowadays, what the result would be

I’m sure that number is higher now I’m not sure that the past few years have screamed government and scientist credibility. For just as many qualified professionals on one end of a topic there is usually the same amount on the other, but it takes balls to go against the grain of everyone else to ruin your reputation. I’d say listen to the podcast I think you will find it interesting and probably have not heard the evidence I put forth. It’s not something I even care for that much or harp on it just is what it is. The time teller needed someone to go on and I know more than your average folk and can always raise a good argument on any subject so I’d be stupid not to go on a platform like that when an opportunity presented itself. He has 200k subscribers on his watch channel and I have 1k. I’m hear to talk watches and thought this poll might get a decent amount of chatter going as it has lol

I watched that podcast all the way to the end yesterday and I'm not focused on this topic either, I just got interested when I was looking at the posts yesterday and so I finished watching it. It's an interesting claim. Anyway, you have great arguments, whether they were on the moon or not.

I'm going to watch TV because late evening on Nat Geo they show people from Alaska hunting and surviving in the wilderness. It's a great show, must be very exciting to live on such a nice place.

Great! Thanks for checking it out and thank you. It at least raises some questions. I live in anchorage so it’s pretty civilized here but you can get out into the wild pretty quickly. I’m doing some remote hunting in Kodiak soon so that should be pretty cool. I do a lot of hiking, fishing, and a little hunting. I used to do more dangerous outdoors stuff but I have a daughter now so might not do as remote hikes where their are as many bears but Kodiak will for sure be crazy and exciting

Yeah, this guy's in that show are always around Kodiak, speaking for myself if I would have to go out there in wilderness then I would likely equip myself with tones of ammunition lol

Here in mid Europe you could never experience such real wild life it's overcrowded even in mountains and you don't really got dangerous animals except bears but they much smaller then those in Alaska so you may as well safely wear an expensive Rolex to wilderness here and noting happens to it 😕🍻

Even around the city some people are still rushed and killed by bears it’s pretty crazy. I never hike without a 10mm handgun anything less is two small of a caliber and you need special bear ammunition that penetrates deep but doesn’t expand pretty much the opposite of normal carry ammunition. Europe looks awesome though! I definitely want to visit, which exact country are you in

Omg, I can't even imagine to carry a gun to wilderness here in EU I only got flesh light with stun gun but never used it although there has been some attacks on human lately but not often. I'm in Slovakia about 10 km to Austria border living in Bratislava which is about 30 minutes drive to Vienna, about 2 hours drive to Budapest and about 3 hours from Prague. I drive daily couple of times back and forth to Vienna bc of my job. Let me know if you come and I can advise you where you can rent one of this cottages for bargain if you want to stay in wilderness.

You likely will enjoy lots of watch shops around here also, there are plenty of them especially in Wien but of course depends which part of Europe you be visiting. I also lived for nine years in US I been in many places just to name few NY, NJ, Philadelphia, then I moved south FL, GA, Alabama (was best times of my life) then I went to Colorado for couple of months, been in Denver and in small town called Breckenridge up in the mountains. I hiked almost every day and speaking of it there was a guy in Breckenridge a watch collector, before I didn't even had an idea that the watches are being collected 😀
