Review of the pretty watch w/ the ugly name
Chinese brands get a bad rap. Seems to be a lot of bad rap nowadays! Especially in rap. But I digress. They get a lot of bad rap for good reason. For a long time watches from there were horrible. Cheap movements with horrible specs and bad quality control. But I'm finding more and more that they're starting to come into their own. If you check reviews and due your diligence, you can find some outstanding watches now. Brands like Pagani Design... Seestern... San Martin and Seagull along with others can offer some really nice watches with amazing specs with prices that other brands of similar quality can't match. If you like Seiko, Citizen, Timex and Casio I guarantee you'll love many of these. As for today's offering. We have this dive watch from Berny. A Chinese micro that until lately I hadn't heard of. I saw this one and decided to take a leap. I'm happy I did. Although I'm not impressed with the name the watch is very nice. Good quality control, original design with great specs.

This is on a 316L full stainless steel strap with fully milled clasp with safety buckle and 4 holes of micro adjust.
Sapphire glass with sapphire cyclops
Bg9 superluminova that actually really well applied. Even and bright.
Screw down recessed crown
100 meters of claimed water resistance.
The case design is taken from the old 30s and 40s diving helmets.
This watch is an absolute winner for me. It fits well. Comfortable and not nearly as top heavy as it looks like it might be. I definitely feel like Berny has a clear winner with this one..... Now if I can just get them to do something about that name!! Lol. So I'm definitely going to give them another try! If you like what you see I can tell you this... This is a good one!

That's definitely what they're referencing but as far as the brand itself... NO! It only has 2 things to do with Kobe... Jack and shit.
I know this is overly simplistic, but it’s just not that hard to make a good watch. The specs you mentioned are great, but everybody (except f*cking Seiko) can match them. So the only thing that really differentiates one micro from another is price and design. While the design of this watch does nothing for me, at least it’s not a direct copy of a popular watch (at least not as far as I know). So yeah, that’s a great price, and not an overly stollen design. What’s not to love?

Im pretty sure there was a time when people thought “Rolex” was a ridiculous, nonsensical name. And I think “San Martin” sucks, but the more it gets mentioned, the more it seems normal. Maybe one day “Tactical Frog” won’t make me want to murder people. Who can say? Anyway, I don’t think the name is terrible, and it certainly wouldn’t keep me from buying the watch.

People claim to care about design and specs, but they’ll buy a Seiko with hardlex and 100m WR over a micro with an original design, sapphire, 300m WR, and a much MUCH better bracelet.
I get likening Seiko designs, I certainly do. But stop buying their BS so they stop making it. Don’t buy anymore “limited edition” watches that look just like other watches costing 1/10th the price. Stop letting them tell you hardlex is great or that they can’t afford to put sapphire on a $500 watch. It isn’t, they can. Stop buying $3000 watches with the same movement and case as $800 watches. For the love of God, stop buying watches with Bracelets that aren’t worthy of watches costing 1/2 as much.

Facts!! Finally I meet someone else who's on top of what's happening in these Chinese watches. I know there's a lot of homages but if you take a few and dig around you can find some original stuff.... plus I don't mind homages. I can get a beautiful quality watch in a design I love without paying some ridiculous ass price for it.
I don’t think Berny is a terrible name. No worse than Benrus, Elgin, Fortis, Oris. Just sounds like a name to me.
Some of the goofy Chinese names, mysterious code and the likes, look at all the mentions they get. Even if you just mock them you remember the name.

The dynamic has changed for us horological geeks, Seiko releasing their movements to any company with a pile of Yuan has only benefited we consumers. And if I had to bet which of the 2 new watches delivered today had the misaligned bezel the Berney or the Seiko I’d bet on the Seiko. There are a lot of Holier than Thou folks on this site and fine that’s an individual’s choice. But to demean someone that may not be able to afford to put gas in their car for scrapping together $120 and getting a watch with similar specs to your $6,000 watch is delusional and void of this reality we call Life. Get what YOU want and forget all else.
& it's a horrible font for a watch, particularly if it has a classic look to it.

If that's true and the watches hold no value other than the run of the mill NH inside them, then it also makes it true about almost every micro brand out there that uses them in mass. So no... I have to disagree.

I'm not saying which one I got until I do the review. Don't want to spoil the surprise lol! I'm gonna have fun with this one though!
It comes down to price point. The Chinese NH35 equivalent movements are poorly lubricated and put together. Sugess charge a whole lot more for their product so it stands to reason they are put together better at the higher price point. The NH35 is the most popular watch movement coming out of China right now. The ETA clones are Swiss engineered to be good and the Chinese probably make most of their parts for them anyway so they will be good and cost accordingly. The Chinese say "same same but different"
