Quartz only SOTC!

Hey team, first post here, but lurked for a while. Great site. Wanted to share my collection - which is quartz only. I've owned a variety of automatics, from brands like Tudor, Tag, Oris, Monta, Seiko, but after getting the Speedtimer and then replacing my Prince date day and BB36 with the SBGX263, I have joined the dark side!

L-R:

Grand Seiko SBGX263

Hamilton Boulton H13431553

Seiko Prospex SSC817P1 (on Monstraps rubber)

Thanks mate! Checked out your collection too. That Prince D+D is worthy of being an only watch! I had the two tone variant with white roman dial. Great choice. Definitely one of the most comfortable watches I've ever had.

Nice watches! I'd like to find some quartz I like as well.

Which watch roll is this? Does it stay open like that or did you have to hold it for the pic?

I think Seiko, Credor, GS, Citizen are the places to start!

Not sure. I think it is a random one from Amazon. It was a Christmas gift from my brother. Yes it stays open.

Nice, very nice. Now let's see Paul Allen's collection. 😎

Nicely done! I’ve got a SBGN003 and a SSC813 is on the way. Nothing wrong with quartz!

·

That’s a really balanced varied collection mate, congratulations

Quite the contrary - I definitely prefer quartz now!

Thanks mate. I've had 6 watches before and it drove me nuts. Funnily enough 6 is probably a reasonable/small amount for a lot of folks. Since I knew I had to only have 2-3, I definitely tried to cover all the bases I could.

This is an awesomely balanced collection. Kudos.

And kudos for going all-in with the quartz extravaganza, it takes b*lls 😂

Thanks dude! I am fully on board the Quartz train haha. Solar quartz preferably! Imagine a world combining the craftsmanship, finishing and luxury feel with such a hassle free, accurate movement. Seems like a beautiful world to me! Haha

I fully agree. Since discovering the world of HAQ watches my wishlist has completely changed 😂

I want them all SBGX343, SBGX259 and SBGX331 🤤🤤🤤

Jokes aside, I‘ve written this already on a post discussing quartz…I do not get cheap mechanical movements. I just don’t see the point of them anymore. What is the point of owning a watch with abysmal accuracy and with a cheap movement that will anyway just be replaced instead of serviced, only so that you can say it’s mechanical.

For instance, for these reasons, I want to part ways with my Seiko SPB143 and replace it with a quartz watch.

Quartz has had a bad rep in the past few decades, especially because of the ubiquitous cheap, plastic quartz watches.

But brands like GS and Citizen are showing thst if you put the same passion, care and craftsmanship into creating beautiful quartz watches, then there’s no reason why these shouldn’t be considered luxury, as their mechanical counterparts. I will still buy mechanical watches, don’t get me wrong, but I will be much more thoughtful and careful in my choices. If I pay good money, then I want a watch that is beautifully finisehd and that has an accurate movement. Basically a watch worthy of its price tag and that will justify the reoccurring maintenance costs over the years…

I agree with all of the above. I think at a certain point, e.g. entry level GS, higher end Seiko, Credor, Citizen, etc, the finishing and feel are just as good as any other big luxury brand. You will probably even get more finishing for your money, considering the cheaper movement relative to a mechanical one. This GS is flawless in terms of its finish. I've owned Tudors which had peeling paint, misalignments, etc. Not to mention, even +2 seconds a day seems tedious after you have a quartz that is +10 seconds a year!
