My thought is that the GMT II was released in the early eighties…placing it about four decades after D-day…but hey, truth is a subjective matter these days 🙃
Just to play devil's advocate. D-Day in the generic sense could denote many military execution day(s) - so maybe his grandpa stormed the beaches of Grenada in the 80s with his Rolex GMT? 😉😜😆 /Snark

I like this theory. My counter argument is that apparently this model was released in 2013 (I googled it so it MUST be right). My guess is that Grandpa stormed the beaches of Tulum with that watch in 2013.
My first serious watch in the late 80s was a 2T Rolex Datejust, followed by a few steel subs before I was talked into buying a gold D/D by my friendly ad who was worried about meeting his monthly rent responsibility. Eventually I noticed a lot of persons that I would never fraternize with wearing the brand until one day I decided that the watches were not separate from the brand’s marketing and moved on, never returning.

Very true. Or…he could have asked for his grandfather’s DeLorean as well.

You beat me to the punch!

And this is the watch that I wore during the space assault on Tatooine.
I hope that one day I'll be able to pass it to my cat once he finish his studies and graduates from the Jedi academy.
