Newcomer saying hello

Hello everyone! I've been looking at your watches from the shadows for a while now and I tought it was time to introduce myself and share my collection.

My interest in watches is somewhat tied to my family and the watches they wore. I've always seen Omega as a "our" brand seeing both my grandfather and dad wore them. The white and blue "bullseye" Omega is the watch my dad wore and the one I associate as "Dads watch". I learned that he had inherited it from his grandfather, my great grandfather. The gold constellation is also from him and the gold ladys watch was a gift from my great grandfather to my great grandmother. The pocket watches is even older though I don't know who bought them.

I asked my dad to get me a Omega as a kid and obviously he wasn't gonna buy his 10 year old son a real luxury watch, so he got me a fake speedmaster. He was upfront about it being a fake but I didn't care. I loved it altough it was way to big for me.

When I got older it was somewhat embarrassing wearing a fake watch so I stopped wearing it, but I'd fallen in love with the design so I swore that I one day would own a real Speedmaster. And today I'm a proud owner of the Speedmaster Broad Arrow ref 3594.50, with steel bezel like my old fake omega, ironically called the "Replica".

My biggest love for watches is the memories and stories they carry and I wanted to join this community to tell my familys story and listen to yours, and maybe leave our stories to future generations.

Thank you for reading this far

Welcome and great story and watches

·

As someone who is not a fan of Omegas, that bullseye watch is sweet.

·

I am fortunate enough to also be married to a third generation Omega owner, it is very much the watch brand we associate as being almost part of the family story. It warms my heart to see that same spirit in another, I hope you get all of the Omega's you desire in your future.

Welcome Cruncher

I would like to welcome a fellow Omega fan. I was 11 when my dad gifted me my first steel grown up watch: 1960s Omega Seamaster. Whatever decent habits I have today came from my brilliant fierce dad. Coming from the Middle Kingdom he was not particularly tactile or even communicative but lectured that dress shirts are best clean and white, trousers cuffed in any fabric as long as it is grey flannel. Arriving in Canada as a boy I experienced difficulty speaking English even CAT took some effort but OMEGA and even Rolex would have been no issue for the boy me.

It sounds like your dad hade good taste. Do you still have the watch? I'm not the biggest fan of the modern seamasters but the 60s seamaster are some of my favorite watches, both the steel and the gold ones. Would love a gold seamaster with a black dial.

Yeah, I count myself lucky coming from an "Omega family". My wallet could probably not handle being from an "Audemars Piguet family"😂

Hi I wore that watch everyday until one day I actually allowed my older daughter to use it since by that time it was on an Omega leather strap, the steel bead style bracelet died years before. She was working summers as a lifeguard did not remove my watch when she was on duty, one of the spring bars broke when she was on her bicycle, watch fell into a rainwater gutter watch was gone. I should have changed new Omega bars but that is life sometimes. I am looking at the new PO or the Ultra Deep if my dollars can add up in the fall.

Best,

J
