I was rooting for TAG Heuer. I am perhaps one of the rare individuals who thinks that what they did after being taken by TAG, e.g. the Kirium or the SEL, are their best models. Yes, I said that and I mean it.
So by all accounts, I should love this even though I dislike collaborations and dual branding. But I don't because can't shake the feeling that a sausage-finger typo resulted in a 150โฌ watch being sold for 1500โฌ. You know it's bad when a year ago Hodinkee figured it would be cheaper...
But sometimes in watches, we have our heads shoved so far up our collective crown tubes, we forget that an entry-level watch that costs $1,800 isn't really entry-level at all. That's why a modern quartz, plastic TAG Heuer Formula One that costs a few hundred bucks would be so fun for TAG, and for enthusiasts new and old.
I don't know what is too thick but I won't buy a mechanical watch over 12mm in height because they serve no purpose other than looking nice. And once you exceed that it looks like one is wearing a wrecking ball because the strap is so thin in proportion.
Some may say that is unreasonable because the movements are so thick and some mechanisms are very complex. I don't care, ergonomics is a hard constraint. If you can't make it with good looking proportions and such that it will sit well on the wrist, don't bother making it at all.
Mars. If you buy one you might as go colorful. I don't see the point in the muted ones, doesn't suit the Swatch vibe in my opinion. I'd rather get a Tissot or Seiko watch if I was after that.
Well, someone mentioned a shorter clasp. That's certainly a start. I may not have sold mine if the consort bracelet had been a thing but the one in the picture was the only option back then.
I do believe that the whole thing needs an overhaul though. It is not just long but also quite thick and the articulation of the 6 o'clock end piece is terrible. Tudor's Black Bay clasps suffered from a similar issue but they fixed it with their new clasp design. ChrWard should arguably do the same and offer it for sale to those who own the watch without having to buy a whole new bracelet.
