Brand loyalty…what do you collect?

For me Universal Geneve is the vintage watch brand I covet the most…

My favourite is the 20369-1 The ridiculously rare dual crown Polerouter Sub Mk1 with its microtor 215 movement (a microrotor)

Universal Geneve are sadly no longer trading though the brand name has been purchased by syndicate from Singapore I believe

Which brand do you collect?

I’m loyal to omega and timex. Not because I want to, it just happened that way. I could have more omegas and timexes, I just try to control myself, at least a little. 😁

I have seen your page on IG. You have some beautiful watches.
I also have a Seamaster and a Speedmaster. Omega is my second favourite 😊

Thanks buddy.

My interest in watches was originally spurred by Hamilton and Omega.  Right now the objects of my fascination are Gruens and Zodiacs (pre-Fossil).  You may have won me over to Universal Geneve.

There are definitely still some beautiful bargains out there, you will not be disappointed.
I shall have to look into Gruen and Zodiac too 😊

Gruen essentially imploded in 1958.  But until then they produced beautiful and accurate pieces.  Most are small for modern tastes.  I don't have modern tastes.

That Universal Geneve is absolutely awesome, beautiful watch.

·

Sinn is my favorite brand making up over half of my collection

I’ve heard good things about Sinn I like the 104…

I have watches of all sizes! 32mm to 42mm. some of my favourite watches are 34/36mm. Some smaller watches have a lot of style.

Partial to both Zodiac (since the mid 70's) and Hamilton since the mid 90's. However I have more Timex than any other brand. Mainly because they've always been around and they do a great job of scratchiung the dreaded "itch".

The only loyalty I have is consciously not having a particular loyalty toward any one brand. I like the variety that comes from buying multiple brands across several different price points.

If you saw my collection you would see that Universal is a small yet treasured part of it. I own watches that cost in the tens of £ to ones that cost considerably more. I wear them all and cherish them in the same way. Universal is just a brand I keep being surprised and delighted by.

Please don’t get me wrong. I’m not trying to say my preferences are somehow better. Not at all. Just different, which I think is one of the best things about meeting other collectors. I’m not familiar with Universal at all, but I’m keen to learn more. I do have a soft spot for under-the-radar stuff in any form.

Hmm, I wouldn’t call it loyalty but I’m very drawn to Lorier, so much that I have bought every single model they have put out except the latest one called the Safari which did not resonate with me. I love their modular approach to their watches and how they build from one design language which is very similar to how one 5 pointed crown brand set about their business. I love the vintage feel, acrylic included, the sizing, that bracelet, and of course the owners! The Ortegas are such lovely people. One can play Uno with the cards.(Image failed to load!)

That does sound pretty loyal to me! Lorier is a company that I heard very good things about too, their aesthetic is different, like Baltic. I’ve always thought about getting one of their GMT’s perhaps now I will. Oh and watch card Uno sound like a great game 🤣

I'm obsessed with Japanese watches. Preferably JDM (Japanese Domestic Market). Grand Seiko, Seiko, Citizen and Casio all have luxury-level watches that I think can hold their own against anything from Europe.

Great choice…I have my fair share of vintage Seiko and Citizen and have always wanted a GS.

Just picked up a 1971 King Seiko 56KS. I'm really impressed. In great shape, and running +8 SPD. A fifty-year-old watch!

Casio for me.

I must have about 5 now!

Its silly really, as I only really need one to tell the time…

Hmm, very good topic here.

I guess, as a "collector," I actually, as my collection winds down, want to collect two brands: Rolex, since it's my favorite - and believe it or not, Edox, the best quality-to-price brand I've encountered since taking the hobby seriously. Here in the U.S., few know about Edox - so the stuff goes gray and is offered for about 40 to 80 percent off initial MSRPs. This Grand Ocean, about 10 years old now, still ranks as one of the best watches I own- certified chronometer, unique styling, great ETA movement - I rank it up there with my Rolex and Omega models, and yes, I'm writing with a straight face. I just ordered an Edox Delfin model as a late Christmas present.

Very nice! I have a friend that is obsessed Edox! Always telling me how great they are.
Rolex is an incredible brand that unfortunately has become more a status symbol than a timepiece. Don’t get me wrong their quality is undeniable its just hard for me to justify the price tag.
But then the whole watch market is inflated at the moment, luckily there are still some wonderful watches out there at reasonable prices.

Look forward to seeing and hearing about the Delfin. Have looked them over repeatedly and buying one is not off the table here.

I love my Neptune. Lorier makes great watches. i think they can eventually reach boutique brand status like CW and even more. i wonder if they’ll release a pilots watch anytime soon

good post, and cool collection. I’ve always admired UG from afar (social media mostly) and haven’t seen any in person yet. Vintage feels so risky, given all the franken watches out there. I’ve become a fan of Ming - watches- almost every release has been an emotional tug for me. its not everyones cup of tea- but the brand certainly has a passionate following.

Love the dials on Ming watches! Great choice.

Vintage Rolex mostly... but I have a few Omegas and some 'microbrand' watches too.

👍

·

Seikoholic here.  The innovation and history is what draws me to them I guess, that and the affordability (once!).

Its a shame the QC is a bit hit and miss these days.

I've started to like Christopher Ward stuff of late too.

My mind is definitely against brand loyalty,i can understand it,not part of it.I just buy a product that i like.if a product is good i buy it no matter the name of it.But that's just me 🗿
