Baltic MR01 Arrived

Just wanted to share some thoughts about my latest acquisition ๐Ÿ™‚

Way back in October I went to the Windup Watch Fair NYC, and wrote about some of my favorites here. One of which was the Baltic MR01.

Once I got home, I pulled the trigger on one in Salmon on the beads of rice bracelet. The catch... It wasn't going to be delivered until mid June of the following year. So I waited.

Then an email arrived telling me my new watch was on it's way, a bit early. More excited waiting.

Then it was here. And it's a looker. My first Baltic, my first salmon dial. I wore it the next day as I was dressing up for a presentation at work.

Love the coppery textured dial. Love how the Breguet numerals shine in the light. Love the offset small seconds dial. Love the dimensions. Love the warmth and hint of distortion from the hesalite crystal. Love the look at the micro rotor movement in the back.

Don't love how it feels a little light... Just a little bit hollow almost? When you first pick it up, you expect it to have a little more heft. But once it's on the wrist, it feels good, and looks great! And don't forget this is a quite reasonably priced piece.

So on the whole I love it! Yes it's a bit dressy, but it feels sporty enough for jeans and a hoody like I'm wearing now.

I'm excited to put some miles on it. Try out some straps on it (any recommendations on color or type is welcome).

Baltic says more will be available come June - so if you're on the fence, I'd say get it!

Thanks for reading my little ramble. Anyone else been eyeing this one for a while? Or been enjoying it (or not enjoying it?) What say you?

Yes, been eyeing Baltics for a while

Love the look

These are great. Been eyeing the blue Aquascaphe for a while, just wish I could try it on before buying.

I had been also. Just really liked their design sense and the spot-on retro vibes. But this one got me ๐Ÿ™‚

I know what you mean! With these micro/independent brands, it's not like you can walk into a local AD and try one on.

I did get to meet some the folks at Baltic and try on their stuff at Windup. Obviously, I was smitten by the MR01, bit their divers are great. I was kind of drawn to their dual crown Aquascaphe

Think you'd take a leap of faith and order one? Or would you need to see it on wrist first?

Damn that looks great. I think Iโ€™ll probably end up taking a leap of faith at some point and try it out. I can always return it if I need to. I somehow donโ€™t have a diver yet for my collection so this might be the first. I really love the Seamaster 300 but donโ€™t feel like spending that level of money at the moment.

It's definitely easier to take a leap on a Baltic than go quite so far into the deeper end of the pool with the Seamaster (see what I did there ๐Ÿ™‚,) as nice as it is.

I've been slowly setting my sights a little more up market, but haven't dropped that much on a watch... Yet. I do have some on my list if I'm ever fortunate enough to be in a position to do that.

FWIW, The Baltics, in my opinion, offer an awful lot for the money with some really lovely designs. If you get one, I hope you enjoy it!

Very nice looking watch! Like most people have said it's value for money and looks apart. I would love it on a blue leather strap too!

Looks good in bracelet too!

Gorgeous looking piece! I do wish that the Cal. 5000A that they used had hacking though. It'd make the piece a lot easier to set.

Agree. I think I'll try it out on one of the blue leather straps that I have next. Also thinking a congac brown would pick up the dial nicely.

That is a little bit frustrating... As I do like to set my watches to the second (using my phone for precise time). But once it's on my wrist, I don't find that it bothers me. Maybe a gen 2 movement at some point will address that.

Great ! Congrats. Just received some for review. Curious how Iโ€™ll get along.

ยท

I have the same one, got it in last years order. Agree on the feeling of lightness.. makes it feel a bit cheap. But for the price itโ€™s really too much fun, and for an obsolete object as all watches are that is really what itโ€™s about ๐Ÿ˜Ženjoy!

Nice! Just got the exact same model on Wednesday too. Youโ€™re right, it does feel light, but then it is a thin 36mm watch so maybe not too surprising.

Wore the bracelet for a bit, but put it on a blue perlon from Eulit for work Thursday and think it looks great.

That really does look great! I wouldn't have thought of putting it on a perlon. But it totally works! Especially in that color.

I'm finding it more versatile than I would have expected. I was thinking it would be mostly dressy, but I'm finding it works dressed up or down.

I'm still rocking the bracelet, but have been mentally thinking through some strap options.

Enjoy it! And as my mother-in-law likes to say, "wear it in the best of health!"

What size is your wrist? I've always wanted one but am afraid I'm too big

These look great I don't have the wrists to pull it off unfortunately. I heard some QC issues with Baltic so would be good to hear a long term review.

I have a 7 inch-ish wrist. I do enjoy a more classically sized watch. But I don't think it looks small for the size. Something about the wide bezel gives it extra visual weight.

So far (admittedly just a few days) I haven't noticed any issues. I've seen some positive longterm reviews on YouTube.

But so far... Really enjoying it ๐Ÿ™‚
