Seiko SSK001 is too thick…

I want an SSK001 so badly but cannot get over the classic bezel that makes it feel almost sparkly, and it’s SO thick. Does anyone agree?

Any other great GMT options that is as sports as the SSK but feel less like a diver?

The NH34 is a thick movement. It's hard to design a case for movements like that. You have to love the look. That isn't a bad looking watch. I'm not a huge Seiko fan. I still want a Arnie. Just havent pulled the trigger yet although I think this will be the year I buy one. Trying to save for a Omega Planet Ocean right now so we see.

I have the orange dial, and yes with the nice jubilee bracelet, the watch is too thick. My solution is to swap with a rubber strap, which somehow reduce the thickness feel..

·

Personally, i feel it wears a lot smaller that the spec sheet would have you think. Make sure you try one on before dismissing it. I think you’ll be very pleasantly suprised as how it wears.

If your budget can strech to it, maybe look at a CW Sealander C63 GMT.

The SSK023 maybe?

I was in love with the watch until I got to try it on…. That made me realize there’s no way I’d like to wear that…

It’s not only the thickness, it’s also the polished look… with some minor tweaks it would be an out-of-this-world option. However, other Seiko GMTs are really cool. Maybe go that route?

I personally don’t think it’s too thick. I may be a bit biased because I own one 😅. But I find that it sits quite well on wrist and doesn’t feel as thick as the spec sheet suggests. I guess the only problem would be when you try to put it under a cuff. As for the “sparkly” bit, I think it adds character and makes it look more premium than it is. That, of course is personal opinion. But from an owners perspective, it’s actually really nice and is one of the reasons I bought the watch.

Why not the newer seiko gmt at 39mm?

It's very versatile though. Can dress up and down beautifully

It is a thick watch, but the mid case design isn’t overly thick. Some of the thickness is in the case back, and I personally think it wears pretty well. I switched to a beads of rice bracelet from Strapcode on mine and I do enjoy the result:

Tracks Venturer GMT gets my vote. It’s a phenomenal watch for the money.

You’re in luck because with the introduction of the miyota 9075 there’s a whole world of microbrand (flyer) gmt watches for pretty cheap.

My two favorites are the Traska Venturer GMT which is styled similar to a Rolex OP, and the Lorier Hydra SIII which is a dive GMT.

Ah, I do love Traska!

I would, but I have a Hamilton Khaki Field that feels too similar to this one. I really like this watch though

Same bezel edge that’s on my Seiko Turtles. I’ve never liked it— the watches would look so much better with a non-polished coin edge bezel!

Preach! Big fan of the coin edge bezel. I’d buy it in a heartbeat if that were the case.

I own the same watch and have a 6-inch wrist. You are right, the front and mid part of the case doesn't seem big. The chunkiness is mostly at the caseback. The thickness gives it quite a strong wrist presence.
