One thousand dollar Timex

Hey folks,

Would like some opinions on this. I decided to slow down or stop completely bringing in new watches. I decided to be a mostly Timex collector for a few reasons, I have OCD and it looks authentic in my mini museum I created. However, due to the affordability I have well over 100 watches. Now here is the question, I may be retiring any where from next year to 3 years max and I want to buy a milestone watch. I have been lusting over the new Timex Galli S2, I love everything about it, but at $1,000 is it crazy for me to spend that on a Timex? Obviously being a Timex only collector I don't have any illusions of making money if I ever sell, but now that I'm in that range I may feel a little different. I also realize, $1,000 for many here is peanuts, but not for me. Would love to here some Cruncher advice and wisdom.

Not at all! No more ridiculous than spending thousands on an Omega or Rolex.

If it puts a smile on your face and you can afford it then it's priceless.

Life's too short to worry - do what brings you joy 👍🏻👍🏻

It's a great looking watch, and the price doesn't seem terrible given the SW-200 movement. I'd suggest that you try it on to make sure that you like the way it looks, and then decide based on how much it tugs at your heart strings. You may also want to wait and see how well they hold their value in the pre-owned market. I'm a firm beleiver in buying "like new" pre-owned watches in order to enjoy sometimes very substantial savings.

Thanks for the great advice so far.

Yes, hopefully when I'm ready to pull the trigger, there will be some gents trying to sell them on ebay for a lot less.

Value is in the eyes of the beholder. And within the context of your personal collection, I'd say this watch is the logical next step.

I prefer the Timex S1 over the S2, it feels more Timex-y to me.

The S2 is nice too, the case especially has a really cool side profile which you don't get in many other Swiss made watches in that price range I'll be honest at that price I'd personally save up a few $100 more and get a "real" (heavy quotation there!) Swiss watch. However, for a Timex fanboy with a huge collection already it seems a no-brainer to me to get that capstone piece!

Don't get hung up by the name on the dial. Look at the specs. and decide from there.

I think it's a not unreasonable price for what it offers.

·

That's a fantastic looking watch, man! Would go incredibly well with your museum!

It’s nice - I was curious to see what sort of price they were going for when they announced it. I suppose, if you wanted to do some homework (groan - @Porthole and his homework) is just see what other watches with that movement are going for.

I do know that Vero offers a 5x adjusted Sellita in the Open Water series, and they charge around $875 with a 10 year warranty. Obviously, that’s not a dress watch with a designer, but it is a very good looking post modern diver.

Anyway - just have a look around to be sure. At the end of the day:

  1. If you like it and you think it’s ok value, buy it

  2. It’s Timex, it might go down in value, especially if people don’t jump on it at the price

  3. It’s Timex, there is always a sale around the corner…

·

It is a neat watch and its specs justify the price. I think it is super cool a high end Timex piece to crown your collection. The cherry on the cake.

·

I have the S1 and I love it, the design punches way above the 450€ asked, but the build quality is what you can expect for that price (noisy movement, only 50m of WR, basic rubber strap). I don't know if the S2 is 2 times more well finished but you don't buy a milestone watch for the specs you buy it for the emotions, what it triggers in you and how you feel when you wear it. I think you have to try it to make your mind.

·

Thank you all! Very helpful, this did it for me. When I'm ready I will buy the S2 and of course, post pics here. I know a watch already owns me when I can't stop thinking about it

That's great. I actually saw a review that said it is the most Timex, Timex every made.

It boils down to what you like and if you alone think it is worth it. I think it should cost no more than $800. Then again, I’m not a Timex collector. If I were I’d buy it

·

If YOU like it, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Seriously, can't stress this enough.

I'm not asking for permission, I'm asking for opinions. Thanks for weighing in.

·

I think it would be a great capstone piece for your collection!

·

Timex has good deals. Just wait for it to go on sale.

·

Do what makes your heart sing, it's an interesting piece. But do what ever makes you happy.

For a stylish moder watch with a SW200 movement is on price tag. You can found other options like the Beaublue that is similar priced and designed.

Maybe you are comparing this Timex with other cheap quarz models instead with their competitors in the market.
