I’ve been looking into the Cartier tank and I really like the design, but I’m not sure which one I prefer the guarantee of the quality of the new tank must or The mechanical movement and salmon dial of the 1980s Tank
The 80's one because less costly and the cabochon is less pointy and elongated. Quartz would be the preferred movement, but sometimes sacrifices must be made.
I would say new (that’s what I have). I’ve seen a lot of 80s tank musts and most aren’t in great shape. The gold is plated so there’s a lot of case discoloration.

I see where you’re coming from however for $2500 you can find some pretty good deals, especially from Japan
For sure I’d go for the quartz. The solidity and finish on the new ones is just a cut above. And it’s not like the movement on the old ones is very exciting.
Now - if you can pick up a vintage one cheap it’s still a great watch.

A. Or something from the 70’s

I’ve had both.

Some pics for comparison.
Non
I prefer the newer one. I don’t really like the empty space around the Roman numerals on the older one.
Buy the new one and save yourself some headaches
#vintage Mechanical for me 👍
