One Hot Watch!

I'm a sucker for material science, and having spent some time with the Oris Coulson LE has seriously put me in the (pardon the pun) hot seat!

Industry-first carbon fiber 3D printed case executed in such a fashion that you can see the layering so perfectly, it almost hurts. Then Oris took it a step further and incorporated titanium to give the structure a bit more of a cool/solid feel (because let's be honest, an all CFRP or polymer watch feels very different from your traditional metal-on-skin watch from the touch, temp and weight) and then I learned about the Coulson Aviation efforts. I am seriously smitten, and that vertical gradient dial is super eye-catching! But it's also about half the total cost of what my next grail watch is...

...so I made a video about it, because that's what I do for fun (and I also find that it helps keep the impulsive desire to want to buy this immediately at bay) did I mention it has a 10 year warranty and a 5 day power reserve?! OK, focus - focus. Keep the grail in mind!

Anyway, I hope y'all like it - but I'm more keen and curious on what your thoughts are on watches that are light. Specifically, this piece weighs in at 66 grams and feels like nothing on the wrist. Is or was watch weight a key factor you took into consideration when building out your collection?

I really wish it was more affordable. I like Oris, but I don't like Oris prices in Canada.

·

Definitely one of their more standout dials. Glad they went bold with this model.

I like light watches and I like Oris designs. That said, I disliked the Oris movement when I handled one of the newer models (might have been previously abused by customers at the shop as it was display) and I believe this one in particular is too expensive.

The Coulson LE is a bit pricey, I'm assuming the tech, materials, and limited run nature of the timepiece has something to do with that. With that said, some of their Big Crown timepieces have seriously caught my eye and they're somewhere around $2K USD plus/minus $200 in either direction - for the design and the brand history (and independence) that's pretty good value I think in this specific sector of the market.

Completely agree! It's such an eye-catcher, there's no way you can miss it - in fact it's the very first watch I noticed when I walked into the AD 😀

Ouch! That's never fun - maybe it was an abused floor model like you said. My experience with the Caliber 400 was very pleasant. Who knows? 😮

My problem is Oris tends to be close to $3K CAD for a base Sellita SW200 powered watch... I get that they are independent, but that's a lot of money.

Love that dial, it's fantastic . Not so keen on carbon for case material. Good for an airplane or a race car, not necessary for a watch case. Steel is good for me.

Right?! It's the dial that grabs you immediately! And I do share your sentiment on carbon fiber (I love it, but I'm still on the fence on its application in things outside of planes/aerodynamic components on race cars) 😀

I really get into Oris lately. Although it's a lot of money, especially with the 400 caliber movement, the designs, charity and the fact that they're independent really speaks to me.

I'm not so fond of this material, but the dial and movement is great! And the story behind it is just .

Agreed, Oris is absolutely making (positive) waves in the watch community so it's easy to root for them 👍
