[NWA] A beauty with some character

Hi watch crunch community,

my new watch has just arrived. As you see in the picture, it is a Rado diastar skeleton 🦴.

I have bought this watch to celebrate that I was able to lose 10kg and got a promotion in my job. You probably would also agree that I could have treated me with a watch for each of these goals 😅, but the second watch will be bought when I lose another 7 kg.

Why this watch? First, I am boring I regards to color style. My core 3 watches are all grey dual, silver and with some (rose-)gold accents to match my wedding ring. But for some reason that I cannot explain I always end up with this color style. The only difference this time is, that you can not call this watch boring in regards to it's shape 😁. It love the shape.

Second, I wanted a watch that draws a bit more attention. Normally, that is not my style, but as I said above, I like the shape and also the fact, that it is a skeleton watch. Seeing the movement ticking every time I look down on it, is just calming. Not to mention the faceted crystal...😉

I am from Germany and one could think that Rado is a common brand here due to the fact that Switzerland is our neighbor, but it is not. At most, you see someone with a captain cook from time to time , but even this model is a rare beast. A diastar...I haven't seen in the wild. My AD had the model not in stock( tbh. not to my surprise). Therefore, they had to order it directly from Rado. After now a 3 weeks waittime I now can hold it in my hand. And I love it.

I asked my AD to put it on a time grapher and well, it is +1s/d. Great job Rado. They also adjusted the braclet to my size and there one thing came to my mind. I have a 6.8 inch wrist and only 2 links are remaining. Totally fine for me, but if someone orders a diastar, check that first. I think that one reason for it is, that the diastar is marketed more to the Asian region. But that is just a a guess.

Do you have a watch in your collection that you would call "a bit special"?

Greetings Daniel

Rado is a "smack you in the face" kind of brand. You don't really hear about them and then when you finally get your hands on one the quality smacks you right in the face👌👌

Gorgeous watch

·

Beautiful watch and the diastar original has a unique shape, they made a ratrapante version once.

·

I love this watch

·

Great choice, I love it and actually have got a similar one: Rado Diastar Limited Edition with a blue dial. Not very popular indeed, but it makes it much more special.

·

That's definitely a bit special.

Sadly, I don't have any special watches in my collection.

Maybe this one. But that's as good as it gets for me.

Never been a Rado fan but the Diastar collection looks amazing!!

I WISH I had a Diastar. Most of my watches are "special" as I can't afford spendy I need to go for novelty. I bought this mostly because I can't afford a Diastar. About as close as I'm going to get. I've had people think its one. Though I'm not sure how.

For me it is a bit similar to the bb58. I would like to own one, but I don't want to wear a watch as a daily that is at 5k. My limit is 2k. Therefore, I rock a design copy of a bb58 on the weekend. I enjoy it. Do the same with your watch. That's what it's all about.

Its one of my more affordable wants. I'm just stupidly poor. Believe me, I'm all about the homage. 2k is about 4x my limit.

And it is fine. Having a limit is something really healthy in this hobby. As said, it is about enjoyment. And I enjoy my homages for 200 Euro, don't care what others say. Our world is centered anyway about everyone else and not yourself.

It’s about the fact that my income is about $1000 a month. :/

I have a soft spot for Rado

·

I really like Rado but as a fellow German I don’t think watches are in the eye of the mainstream anymore and you’ll find most people have zero idea or interest in what we have on the wrist.

·

It’s a kickass piece but good luck actually being able to tell the time with it. Super hard to read with the angled sapphire and skeletonised.

Very cool tho 🤷‍♂️🙌

·

My oddball is also a Diastar, this makes 20 years with this watch, it’s a bit small for me. I was thinking of getting the new 38mm Blue one.
