The state of my 11 Chinese watch collection.

So here is my #sotc for February. I am the proud owner of 11 watches, all Chinese, 9 of which are from AliExpress. I have -:

4 × Pagani Design [all chronographs]

2 × Sugess [1 Chrono, 1 MK XX]

2 × San Martin [1 Type 2 Flieger, 1 GMT]

1 × Escapement Time [Chronograph]

1 × Spaghetti Scameti

1 × Phoibos [Diver]

There is a good balance between Mechanical [6] and Quartz [5]. The 3 that currently see the most wrist time are the #sugess Chronograph, the #phoibos diver and the #sanmartin GMT. I have never worn the Spaghetti Scameti and I likely never will. Until the next time folks.

Thats so cool! So much fun and variety!

Nice collection though maybe missing a Sea-gull 1963?

Possibly, but the Sugess Chronograph contains the ST19 movement, and it runs like a dream. For now at least, I don't feel the need to add a Sea-Gull.

Thanks Patrik, I appreciate it

Nice collection. I'm guessing that 95% of my watches that aren't vintage are made in China. For me they just represent excellent value for money.

They really do. I made a couple of mistakes early on, but I now have my eye in and know how to navigate the crap to find the good stuff.

I still have a little smile when I notice your picture. It relates to a fabulous put down you did to a cheeky comment a good few months back when you put up a photo of your collection. Nothing horrible, just hopefully made someone think. 👌

I can't imagine I would have been anything other than polite 😉

No love for Loreo?

No love for Loreo?

Sadly Loreo was one of my mistakes. It arrived not running so I sent it back. Once bitten and all that.

Ah. Sorry to hear that. My Loreo Sub homage was the single best deal I ever got as far as Chinese brands are concerned. I must have gotten lucky.

I'm sure they do try to make sure their watches are running, but the fact that mine wasn't means that I'm not prepared to try them again. For me, the single best purchase I have made to date, in terms of not only price but overall build quality and qc has got to be my Sugess mechanical Chronograph with the ST19. A truly outstanding timepiece and under €200.

I understand you wanting to baby the Scameti. Some watches are just too precious to wear 🧐 Loving the SM's 👍

Got to love Aliexpress and Chinese watches. San Martin. Steeldive. Addiesdive. Baltany. Berny. Seagull. Parnsrpe. Aesop.

Absolutely!

My lone Pagani failed me. I bought the Polar Explorer homage to assuage my unending desire for the real thing and the Pagani started out strong. Then one day, after not wearing it for a bit, I wound it up and while setting the time the GMT hand got caught on the 5 hour marker and popped it off! I was able to get the watch apart enough to get the marker out of the case, but I can’t figure out how to remove the crown to remove the entire movement and try putting the marker back in (as well as adjust the GMT hand away from the dial). So it’s been relegated to the closet watch box and is on the verge of getting tossed. This has made me very wary of other Pagani watches.

I've had nothing but good results from my PDs. I'm sorry to hear about your issues though. When you look at the movement in the case, there should be a small hole in line with the crown stem. If you can find it, use a pin pusher to gently push in the hole and gently pull the crown out.

I'll give it another shot tonight. I tried locating the pressure point to release the stem, but nothing seemed to work on my previous attempts. I'll take some pictures this time to help others with the teardown regardless of the outcome.

Looks like all I needed was some additional encouragement…and a needle… seriously. Well, that and having the crown in the correct position to begin with.

I found some content on the web that said PD is using an NH35 based GMT movement, but comparing the movement in the watch to an actual NH35 and it’s clear that info was wrong. So I tried that indent near the stem again and it turns out the link pin I was using was a tad too big.

Here’s the sequence (and thanks for the nudge).

This is the before. You can see the 5 o’clock marker is missing

Image

Here is the back with the caseback (screw off) and movement guard removed

Image

Here is the release indent and the pin tool. It was just a bit too big to fully press the release.

Image

Once my wife located a needle for me, it was easy to remove the crown. Here is the movement and dial fully removed from the case along with the missing hour indicator.

Image

I was able to pop it back on relatively easily and I used a long pair of tweezers that I have to gently bend the GMT hand up a bit so it avoids making contact with any of the markers.

Image

And here is the final product…all back together.

Cracking work! Thats 'another bonus about buying Chinese watches. We can practice maintaining them without too much worry

That is an often overlooked benefit. I was able to confidently work on this one knowing that if I messed it up a replacement wouldn't cost too much.

I like that type 2 SM flieger you got there looks solid nice. I almost got it in the Swatch version system 51. But I do think SM gonna out last and with take more the punishment than the system 51.

It is a very solid watch, comfortable to wear and runs like a dream. Even after weeks in the box.

·

Awesome good to hear. I almost got the Laco brand too big for my size it’s nice. Then I saw the system 51 but not solid enough. But this SM love the specs and features. Plus good to know that a fine good Lad like you owns ones. Great I’m on board now.👍

I recommend three of the most collectible Chinese time-honored brand watches: Seagull watches, Beijing watches and Peacock watches, they will never let you down.
