Been visiting this city on a regular basis, especially recently (recent shoulder surgery and the mistress of pain resides there, my physio).
Now Lincoln isn't a huge city by city standards, but there's plenty to see and do. There's a big church thing on top of a really big hill, a castle and lots of Roman bits n peices and being a university city a vibrant night life with lots of pubs, bars n restaurants.
Now if you can tear yourself away from all that boring stuff there's a few watchy places for you to visit. I've been window shopping the last few visits but wearing a sling and on a couple of occasions being with the watch police (the wife) haven't been a watch (shop assistant) botherer. But a couple of weeks ago, newly out of the sling and on my own (plus the weather was miserable) thought let's go and give my wrist some love ie try on what I shouldn't and can't afford. Plus give the highstreet n bricks n mortar shops a bit of coverage.
Earnest Jones
Saw the new longines conquest in the window, do had to have a try on
Definitely the champagne dial and the bracelet is certainly better than the previous gen. Really wanted a try on the ultrachrom but sadly out of stock in there (one for another time)
Plenty of other longines and a tudor AD, that chrono on the bund (very sexy👌)
Also tissot, rado and Hamilton (like the gold Pan-Europ, cant beat a bit of 70s vibe)
Next up Goldsmith's, only a small boutique
But packed with good stuff, rado, oris and tag. Now I had had a look in before the new year and had a play with some rado divers (bit too shiny shiny truth be told)
Now I was wondering what to give a try, when I remembered the previous evening watching the time teller go on about his hates for 2024, seiko 5's, integrated bracelets etc, all the stuff I love. One of his hates was a certain green faced Oris, and guess what they've got one (I'll show that bearded muffin) , to be honest I did agree with him till I tried it on, the assistant laughed when I told her about what the time teller said, she said 'wait till you try it on'. And she was right..
Guess what, I love it. Love the angular case (got form on this style) the bracelet is nice and the clasp is (although hidden here by the price tag) the best I've seen on any watch 'period'. Luckily the Internet is our friend
I've got to say its a superb watch, love it and my normal pet hate on watches is the date window but who cannot love a cute smiley green frog, it just all made sense.
Now lastly but not lastly James Usher
An independent
A nice selection, great to see doxa ❤, but what to try on???
Yep suprise ... a 70s inspired diver, cool 😎 as. (I don't try Doxa's on as I get too exited 😱😅).
A little flavour of what Lincoln has to offer for us watch buffs, and I did say to the staff in all the shops I'll give you a coverage on the world's foremost and bestist watch forum as a thankyou for letting me waste some of their time. And all the staff in the shops were very friendly and welcoming, so I know where to go now when I want to make a purchase. Just goes to show don't believe all you see on the web, and don't get to into what others tell you (the Oris) mind you to be fair the bearded muffin does always say its just his opinion (opinions matter right...wrong it's your own that truly matters). And that's the beauty of bricks n mortar, the try ons, the discoveries, surprising what you end up liking and the interpersonal actions in dealing with humans rather than 3 clicks and it's yours.
Of course there's lots of other places to browse in
Didn't have much in the way of watches on this visit but worth look.
If you like this stuff, this is the place for you (and if your not, a great place for buying gifts) and they do other stuff as well, pirate juice included (rum, which is my go to).
And there's places like this, I call it the knob n dial emporium, full of curios (the wife goes mad when I go near one of these 'what do want that for' as I'm wanting to buy an dial from the cockpit from a jet proverst ' what are you going to do with it' she says 'play with it ' I reply😁) full of fascinating blokey stuff.
My only purchase of the day (from the knob n dial emporium) but Lincoln is well worth a visit and I'll be back there soon and you never know wether a cool orange faced diver, a green faced frog themed titanium here's one in your eye time teller timepiece or an awesome chrono, it might just be from a high Street near me.

Great post. I like these walkabouts.
Will you be doing all the County towns?
Nice post Rob!
Been to Lincoln once for a cheese tasting experience which was surprisingly very good!
Enjoy…..
My home town. Ernest Jones is always good, and they have a sales assistant in there who is a real watch buff. Goldsmiths is a bit of a letdown. A shame both of them are restricted on brands ( no Omega for example).

I'm going to try and give coverage where I go this year (depending on time I get) York is definitely on the agenda. Off to the big one tomorrow (London) n hopefully doing some browsing ( if they let me in😅) might have some experiences to share🤞.

Think I talked to the guy, he's got a couple of tudors, nice bloke. Yeah it's not a big city but you'd think they would be a more of a luxury presence there (plenty of rich farmers in the area, mind you as the son of a farmer((not a rich one I can tell you)) they're mostly as tight as gnats chuffs🤣) If you ever fancy a meet up for a pint/coffee etc n talk watches I'm up for it, cheers.
Lincoln poacher👅
Nice review, went to Lincoln last August and really liked the place👍. I have the Tissot Sideral on a red strap if you needed a recommendation - it’s a great watch and that 80hour movement is excellent 👍

Thanks, must admit the yellow does it for me. Got a couple of the powermatics and it's a great movement (despite what some say) cheers.

London ain’t no County town! That’s stepping it up a bit. I hope it goes well. At least you can rely on them always being welcoming at the Grand Seiko boutique!

Problem with the yellow strap version - and it may not be an issue for you - is the case has yellow marbling in it as well. The red strap version has grey marbling making it easier to swap straps around with out worrying about colour matching. Or is that just my OCD 😂😂😂😂😂

Never thought of that, and I'm a strap change junkie. Well if I'm going to get serious about one I'll give it some serious think, cheers.
Hey my hometown is Lincoln, Nebraska. 🤣
Well it’s good to know that wives are pretty much the same everywhere. Everytime I get pulled in to something she goes “you don’t need that come on!” 😂😅😭
Great review of Lincoln,we visited just after COVID restrictions were lifted, didn't visit watch shops as it was our first visit, here's an idea for the cockpit instrument
Great post! Really enjoyed it.
Someone here may want this. I just found it on eBay.

That Oris looks better every single time I see it
No imp? I always try and say hello when I’m there.

Just the follow up on this, to correct myself! It's the blue strap model that has the blue marbling. The red strap model has less colour on the dial itself making it - for my mild OCD - easier to match it with any strap colour!!
