Face off: Wedding watch

Trying to decide what formal watch I would get for the big day this year, while I love the tank something draws me to the fears, I also like the idea of supporting a smaller British brand (Cartier seems to be doing rather well without me) what do people think, which is your fave ?

Of course, you do you. If I had to choose between the two (not knowing the economics of the situation), it’s Cartier. Just more elegant.

·

I absolutely love fears, even though I don't personally own one. But I do own a tank.

I vote tank due to the history and heritage of Cartier. It is a timeless classic. And if you go with the automatic, it has an in house movement.

Fears doesn't have an in-house movement and different parts are made in different countries but the final assembly is in England.

Cartier is the winner

For your wedding…to own forever, go with the classic and not the new hat.

·

I’d go Tank but really like the Fears

·

Well, for my wedding I would go classic Tank.

But if you take Tank away from this & are letdown at that, then the Fears is what you really want.

·

Mark me solidly in the Fears camp. It's just a wedding. If you are like most folks you will not remember much of it and it's not like you will be taking wrist rolls with the photographer. Get the one that you want.

·

My heart says Fears. Cartier is the logical pick; Classic and you would not be wrong with it, but the Fears has it’s own level of class. Not better or worse, just different.

·

Get the one you want but to me the Tank feels like a great first or second watch  and the fears feels like a great sixth watch.

·

You can't fault going with the home team. It will free up cash to spend on her for the bonus points. Your suit cuff will blur any logo anyway.

·

What’s your wrist size? Get the Tank XL if you have a larger 7” or more wrist. Otherwise Tank Large if 7” or under, or if you have a flat wrist, an XL could work if you can go try them on. I’d opt for the Tank personally.

·

I would pick a different tank tbh. Longines Evidenza is a killer tonneau watch

·

I’d try them on and see which one looks best as lug-to-lug fit will depend on your wrist size. Fears looks nice, like a Tank Cintree, but I’d go for a Tank Cintree instead.

·

Unpopular opinion but I just can't stand that crown on the Tank. I know it's a key part of the design, but to my eyes it's like the watch equivalent of a huge gaudy pinky ring! Fears all the way.

·

I would go Fears for the uniqueness. Almost no one will know what it is. And the Fears will be produced in far lower numbers (175 I think).

I tried on the Fears in the spring of last year (my Brunswick is the one in the middle of this photo) and I enjoyed it. It is certainly unique. I wore my Brunswick (on a black leather strap) for my wedding. It was elegantly understated. Exactly as Fears claims.

I knew I had a photo somewhere. I liked it. A lot.
