Setting Time

In the interest of time (pun intended), when you set your mechanical or automatic watch, how accurate do you get?

[Edit: Assume the watch has hacking function]

It depends. If I have the time I set it to the second, but if I’m running late, to the minute has to work.

With 2 kids and trying to get ready for work in the morning, I’m always in a hurry so I get it as close to the minute as possible.

E: All of the Above, depending on if the watch hacks, how precise I want to be, etc.

Assuming it hacks, would you spend time getting it down to the second?

Under my roof right now are ... six mechanical watches. One doesn't have second hands, the rest don't hack. The three in for service don't hack either.

Today I wore a quartz watch, my Snapple watch, which I set to the second twice. It was somehow off an hour, and then I screwed up and set it five minutes off.

Why are you torturing yourself ?! 🤣😂

I think I've proven what a relief it is to be free of hacking ability. Per the update, I'd be a dork and hack to the second given the ability.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Nothing in my life requires my watches be timed to the second, ever; so if I do it, it's just on a lark or I'm running an accuracy test (no timegrapher)

I’m with you on that…though it looks like we’re in the minority at this point.

Atomic clock for you then 👍

I’m with you, but in the minority

I'm with you, the perfectionist in me will try to make it match if it hacks, but really only if I want to take the extra time, if I've got places to be, get it close and go.

For work, time till something is happening is according to my watch 😂.

2 da Min , Although I have been known to toil with a hacking function to fuss down to the second hand match up.

This song was 🔥

That entire record was 🔥. I just dated myself, lol

·

It will drive me nuts if it's not within a couple seconds.

·

I always set my watches 1 to 2 minutes fast, it keeps me from being late.

·

I set my automatic watch down to minute, but more often I use quartz.

That is a good idea

Spring Drive gets to the second every time!

Image

I almost let it wind down by mistake the other day. With the power meter hard against the zero, and likely to stop at any moment - I expected it to have deviated from it's otherwise complete perfection at timekeeping. I need not have worried! Still spot on! Most mechanicals get a bit out of whack when the spring is almost fully unwound, but it seems SD doesn't do that.

It's fun with crazy accurate watches to track the tiny variations.

My mechanicals are more in the ballpark of +/- a couple seconds a day, so like to track those watches by setting to the second as well, but with lower expectations. Worst is my 4R36 Turtle which is in the +8 second range and I don't bother to get perfect with it. My Zodiac SSW and Seiko Ginza Alpinist are both scary accurate for basic movements.

The great exception: my Kurono is my black hole watch, where time is rendered irrelevant. I set it to the 'ballpark' and then struggle to read it 😂.

Your watches distracted me from the accuracy discussion🤣

What a collection!

Same same

I like to set all of them at once wind em all so I can see at the end of the day what’s fast or slow compared to the casio . Just for fun and I find it relaxing, not all the time mind you , I am not that OCD . Sometimes I just feel like watching them all tick same same 😂

By the time you’re done setting, are all the watches still synced up 🤣😂

No luckily my OCD comes and goes:)

Maybe it’s because of my OCD that I can’t set all my watches exact. If I did, all I’d do is obsess over each second and not do anything else.
