Cruise Watch Enthusiasts

Just came back from a cruise to Mexico and there was a 45-minute “watch seminar” that I sandwiched in between a game of bingo (where my 6 year old won a small amount) and the requisite feeding time.

The seminar was led by the cruise sales manager (the guy in the suit behind the counter) who waxed poetic about “Swiss Made” quality and COSC certifications and so on. The sad part is that on a boat of more than 2,500 guests, there were 6 people, including me, who attending this seminar/sales pitch. For context, bingo was standing room only, over 200 people in a lounge area.

He spoke glowingly about Bremont (they make watches for the military and only make 30,000 watches a year), Breitling (look at the cool wings logo), Hublot (innovation in mixing materials, also is a French word for porthole), and TAG Heuer (gateway brand to Swiss luxury). I can neither confirm or deny what he said.

I was surprised I liked the Bremonts and even the Breitling SuperOcean, though most of the other watches were not my style, to be kind. At the end, he tried to make a sell and asked what watch I liked from his presentation…and I told him I was into microbrands as I was rocking my Nodus at that time. He seemed confused, which is understandable, since either I was drunk (pretty good assumption) or he didn’t know what a Nodus or microbrand was.

Here are pictures of the wrist candy. Do you have any favorites?

It would have been hard not to buy one while you had it in your hands!

Interesting. Glad it wasn’t all Invicta

That is a solid selection for a cruise ship. Most of those watch seminars are largely filled with people looking to kill time or that dude trying to commemorate the trip. The few I have been on (did not attend the watch seminars) it was largely focused on either Swatch brands or Invicta, so all and all, your ship lucked out, all of them (including Hublot) make nice watches. That said, as you know, all those brands have absurd MSRPs, relative to real-world prices. Of the three, short of a very specific Navitimer I want, the brand I would have been most interested in playing with in person would have been Bremont. Their watches are built like tanks, but most are too large for me. That said, I am often tempted when I see them pop up for a fraction of their MSRP.

It wasn’t that hard. I didn’t do any research on these watches and just know them by reputation. What was tempting was that tax free, no interest 6 month financing, and the 20% off Black Friday sale. It’d be a different story if I won’t the bingo jackpot 🤣

They had a case of Citizen x Marvel collab.

Agree with the Bremont. That was surprising.

The Bremont is the only one of interest for me.

Again yes, very surprising

Going with the Nodus...

Hublot (innovation in mixing materials

Did he say Hublonium? That blue Hublot would be my pick though it looks like some of those Brewmonts are human-sized and one is not overstyled.

Now if they had a talk on new smartphones, they might draw a crowd.

·

My next watch will again be from the Breitling catalogue which might disappoint the Mrs who wants me to pick up a precious metal Rolex and finally shut the journey down. The classic Hublot watches are shunned for no credible reasons, the brand was one of the first to use quality rubber straps and mixed different materials in their watches which have always been not for everyone. Very little experience with Bremont but have been informed that they are solid. The watches available for sale on your cruise are surprisingly worthwhile.

I was trying hard not to laugh when he was giving his seminar 🤣

Superocean & SO heritage and the Bremont are right up my street!

Those are the ones for me too

·

One of the breitling Superocean or the blue hublot, but it would not be hard to walk away without buying anything.

·

Ha! Last cruise I went on it was nothing but gaudy Invictas!

·

If I had the money, I'd be way into Bremont. I think it's very good.

There was a case of gaudy Citizen x Marvel watches if that makes you feel better.

It kind of does.😉

Fun stuff! Beats Bingo EZ, even if mostly a sales pitch. And you got to try on some legit watches, always fun. Most cruises sell mall watches I think, you must be on a higher end cruise?

Be so cool if there was a high end watch themed cruise. Free booze and endless trying on your grail watches. Financial ruin assured.

Man, those Breitlings have a lot of fruitcake crazy weird handsets. Each stranger than the last.

🤔

The Navigimer in pistachio is about the only B I like, but it’s so busy looking I’ll prolly never get. That Breit endurance is funny - it’s marketed for triathletes, who have no use for a chrono (they aren’t great for water), and we all wear Garmins when exercising anyway. But most triathletes have money, so I guess not the worst idea.

Hublot - meh 😑

Bremont - that’d be fun to see IRL. They bought rights the their movement from Horage interestingly. But Bremont is flight themed British watches, so cool vibe I think

Love the Tag night diver and Aquaracer solar. Nice looking watches even if “entry level”

If I drank enough, that Super Ocean would've been very hard to resist lol!

·

I probably would have bought the Classic Fusion if sitting there slightly drunk and looking to "commemorate the trip". I'm one small excuse/justification from buying that watch.

Why not just go big and get the diamond encrusted one 🤣

One for the Mrs.

There you go, one for you and one for her

·

I like that white dial bremont on the nato the best. sounds like a fun time.

·

The cruise ship sales people are hilarious in general. I've been on many ships where the LVMH brands have had a presence. The only thing from what you posted that I like are the Superocean mesh bracelets...I like them enough that I stuck my Glycine on an Aliexpress copy.

·

I'm surprised they'd have a niche brand like Bremont available. I like the look of that supermarine gmt but hate that strap color and I've heard from a credible source about issues with the movement.
