I got this Raymond Weil in today. Yeah it's kind of a NWA but I didn't post one. I bought it because the price was right. It was beat up but I orphaned it. It has life left. When I got it I can not believe the filth. I can understand loving a watch so much that it gets some dirt on it. This wasn't dirt, it is dead skin.
You would think that if you love a watch that much you would clean it. I don't think that this is love. It's abuse.
It was so bad that the skin and it's decay juice started eating the gold plating off of the caseback, inside the lettering. I mean even the stretch bracelet was filthy. The pushbars were sklued (skin glued) in place.
I don't know. Maybe it was one of those coffin watches like one that was posted not long ago. 😂
I cleaned it up the best I could and put this leather strap on it. It is keeping time perfectly too.
There you go my little orphan, may you live a long and cleaner life. Above ground if possible.

This is a great find - Love the simplicity and class of this watch - Also try it with chocolate brown strap - This is a watch that would look beautiful with that combination
Great job of bringing it back to life!
Good job! That dial and bezel are beautiful. It deserved a fresh start! 😍

Thanks for the suggestion. My other RW is on a brown strap. I put this on going for Easter colors.
Great job of bringing it back to life!
Thank you. I tried.

Thank you. It sure did.
I have the exact same watch that I purchased new in 1986. Mine looks identical all the way down to the scratches on the back. I love it. It is a great dress watch. Reminds me of the Patek Calatrava.
Neat dial
Wonderful post!
You’re so right about basic watch cleanliness. I’m astonished by the degree of corrosion on the case! Whew.
It’s a very attractive watch!
My secret shame is that I compulsively polish and shine my watches almost daily with a super-fine soft cloth. Lunatic.
Now that's precious. Congrats, my friend. @Aurelian I think will appreciate what you've done to bring this lovely timepiece back to life. Cheers and enjoy!
