Possibility of restoring this watch

Would it be possible to remove the rust on the dial and the scratches on the case without it costing a fortune? (P.S. - Not my watch. I saw this for sale, wondering if it's worth it.)

I'd say it would cost a fortune, but maybe your definition of what constitutes a fortune is different than mine.

Well, this model in particular goes for sale on around $800-1000 when it's in good condition. This one's listed for $120. I reckon it's not worth the trouble but just wanted to make sure.

And those are gouges in the bezel & case; not scratches. With just a general Omega service costing close to $1K, fixing those gouges would likely push the total cost well over the value of the watch in good condition. So yeah, I'd say that's a parts watch at this point.

I'm not a watchmaker, though.

Really depends if the movement is original, the rust etc really isn't an issue, the scratches / gouges tell a story to many people.

Not my taste but it is a beautiful thing, a mate of mine started watchmaking a while ago and this is def something he'd attempt as an amateur but the only issue is spares (if original movement) as Swatch group are being 'difficult' and restricting spares into the market.

Rust on the dial means there is rust in all the places you can't see. Old watches have zero water resistance and that one has suffered from it. Run don't walk away from that one.

Looks like the dial is in good shape. If it’s just the case and the price is right than go for it.

I would stay as far away as possible; the level of interior rust, and tack on that that's a fake DeVille make it a double "no" to me

Ah, I don't actually own it. I saw a listing and was wondering if it was worth purchasing.
