Mine was a recent purchase, or not as it turned out to be.
I found a great deal on a Seiko STO Samurai, one I couldn’t really let slip by. I watch a load of reviews on it, most saying how fabulous the dial was (it’s always difficult to gauge this when viewing online), how Seiko had lifted their bar in terms of QC, etc.
So I ordered one (from a well known UK jewellers) and within a couple of days it arrived. Opened up the box and went straight into my QC checks. Bezel had some back play, didn’t line up exactly and the hour and minute hands didn’t line up, which stood out at the 12 o’clock marker. I didn‘t really take too much notice of the rest of the watch…..it went straight in the box ready for return, which was duly done a few days later.
I ordered another straight away so as not to lose the benefit of the great deal I had. Same again, came within a couple of days. Straight into QC mode and again the bezel failed to align on every rotation. I could just about have lived with it but I took a closer look at the watch this time and thought, you know what, I’m not overly keen on it full stop. For me, the dial didn't really stand out as I had hoped (and I know that’s a subjective issue) and I wasn’t impressed with the overall design…..I thought it was too ‘polite’ to be a diver. That watch has been returned today and I’ve ordered a gen 4 Monster in its place, again at a fantastic price (more or less 40% off).
This was the first watch I bought and actually thought I don’t like it and I want my money back. Now whether the QC issues tarnished that view or not I’m not sure, but I think I would have been left extremely disappointed after a time had it remained in the collection.
I know a lot of Samurai owners will be reading this and thinking, “What!?”…..but it just didn’t do it for me….sorry guys.
I’ve got that strap from them too. Thought it would match up with a green dial Seiko I have but it doesn’t. Think I’m going to give up trying to colour match my watches/straps and go down the contrast route instead 😂
I’ve got to give them a break tomorrow…..if they see that watch for one more day they’ll probably chew my arm off 😂😂 There may be another beasty make an appearance tomorrow 🤔
Ah, now that brings a new perspective to it……🤔
Maybe not return then. Suppose a way round it is to ignore the date window one day every month or, if you’ve got a few watches on rotation, NEVER wear it on the 14th 😂
not sure how my OCD would cope with it though 😫
