Finding a new home

Whilst I like the idea of a watch case with a showcase lid, it takes up a lot of space and is a magnet for dust…..and I seem to live in the dustiest house ever! Also, although this was only a cheapo one off Amazon, even after just a couple of months, the clasp doesn’t work properly and the base is coming away. So I needed to work something else out.

I‘ve seen people use drawers, which I’ve always thought look absolutely fabulous so I decided to convert a sock drawer (these can go elsewhere - I have plenty of spare drawer space) into a neat and tidy place to keep my collection.

So we start with an empty drawer…

Although I would have loved to have nice wooden separators, I neither have the time nor the energy to buy the wood and cut it up to the exact sizes. Here’s where Amazon come in again, and a reasonably priced set of plastic ones…..

These are quite deep, so I needed something to bulk up the depth. A cheap foam seat…..

Cut to the right size….

Re-home my collection…..

So we go from this…..

To this…..

Voila!

They are less prone to wobbling about too. The slots in the case were a little larger than the cushions and I‘ve made the new slot size tighter.

It actually gives a few extra slots that need filling - there’s 2 more than you can see. I’m going to get a small 3 slot case for my Citizen Eco Drives so they are soaking up the light all the time.

Looks fantastic. Great job. So now you have to buy a new dresser instead of another watchbox in the future.🤓

This is awesome!! forget about underwear drawers!! Go commando baby!!!

Love it! When I re-do my bedroom this will be a topic of discussion as we will have a customized closet. Might have a spot for the watch box I want to build or something similar to this.

Oh my, you have such first world problems. 🤣

great solution

I have the 12-watch version of that same box. 100% agree about it being a dust magnet. I’ve had good luck with it otherwise, but I think that just goes to show how much of a gamble buying cheap shit is. Maybe yours was made on a Friday. 🤷‍♂️

I’ve got a much wider drawer and spare dividers if I ever want to expand 😂 Of course, that’s the easy bit….the challenge will be the watch bank balance to fill the slots 🙄😆

Also no joking this time…I really like this idea and I remember @Omeganut idea with this..

maybe this might be better for the bottom piece instead of foam… I think foam attracts and keeps dust more and harder to clean at least leather base might be better…

The foam is 1.5” thick and cut to fit each slot so it raises the watch/cushion higher up. They sit too deep otherwise. It also gives some rigidity to the dividers as they’re quite flexi - I cut them so they were a nice tight fit. I did try cutting the plastic down but it was too difficult to get a nice sharp, level finish, and was prone to being broken through the process too.
Your right about the foam holding the dust but my other thinking for doing this was that it sat the watches on something really soft that wouldn’t mark the clasps and strap buckles.
