Battery Prices

Is it just me but batteries cost a FORTUNE at stores? It was $6 for ONE SR621SW.

I go on eBay and there’s a guy selling Renata batteries one town over (Richmond) for $2 for 2.

Meanwhile it’s $20 at the mall!

Say what you will but I’m doing all my own battery changes from now!

Yep it’s crazy what they up charge at retail quantity 1. I buy all of my batteries on Amazon. I usually end up with more than I need, but it’s significantly cheaper.

Wise move. Stores cannot move button batteries of any size, therefore they have to charge a premium for them to take up space. A button battery takes up the same retail space as AAAs. So much cheaper to buy in bulk via amazon, etc. and do yourself.

Also, in my experience before changing my own, I generally received old batteries from jewelers and they were lucky to last a year. Who knows how long they sat around.

I buy 10 at a time for €5,00. Its crazy how prices vary from 1 continent to the other!

I was lucky to find a local specialty store that tends to sell most batteries in the little tear-off blister packs for under $2 ea. Yes, I could go Amazon or eBay and get a couple shipped for that amount but then I have to wait a few days.

IIRC jeweler battery replacement was like $3 in the 80s and maybe $7 around ten years ago.

Not even! On eBay you can get the same price! (I think one listing was 20 for $9.99!)

Out of curiousity, where in Europe are you?
