If you could chose only one watch, affordable sub 1k, for your every day situations, what would you suggest? Ideally a watch you own and experienced. Ideally a "strap monster", should be dress it up and down, under 40mm on diameter, lugs of 20mm. Any suggestions? For example the Hamilton Khaki field atuomatic 38mm black would be one of my pick. Thanks for you help crunchers! Please share the picture as well if you can!!

I wear my Seiko 5 sport 38mm all the time. While mine is the snoopy edition, it comes in other great colors and I'm really tempted to pick up the black.... and maybe the orange. You cannot go wrong.
Hamilton Khaki Expedition hands down!
Lorier.
Neptune or Falcon depending on personality.

Thank you! I guess then your suggestion goes toward a diver, possibly black, from a Seiko family 😄.

Those are great suggestions! Thanks!
Hamilton Khaki Expedition hands down!
Thank you! Great one. This is more in the "sporty side" everyday watch!
My vote is the Serica 4512 field watch. 37.7mm with 20mm lug width and drilled lugs. Wears like a dream on a nato strap. Pic is in my WRUW.
Anything from Traska would suit you well.
Thanks! Beautiful one and very dressy expecially with this bracelet!

Kinda yes. A black Seiko diver of any kind won't be a wrong choice.
I was specifically recommending the 38mm Seiko5 Sport
Hamilton Murph

I missed the dressed up part! In that case, I would choose this Farer. I don’t have that particular one, but the Farer I do have is great!
My choice would be--and in fact is--the Seiko Alpinist. Same field watch ballpark as Hamilton Khaki but just a more appealing aesthetic IMO
I think a black Seiko Alpinist fits the bill. It’s 39mm in diameter with 20mm lugs and comes in under 50mm L2L. It has a decent movement, a date complication, and has 200m of water resistance for swimming/beach/vacation. It can be dressed up on leather, made sporty with a nice bracelet, or dressed down with a NATO.
Hamilton Murph is hard to beat for this. I have the 38 and it’s very versatile with straps. The only kicker is that they didn’t drill the lugs.

Yes, it is a nice choice 👍
Thank you for the suggestion! This is very attractive and has it all at a good price ! 👍
Check out the other colours too. There is dark blue (SPB157) and green (SPB155) variants. The green is exactly the green Alpinist colourway. Gold hands and green dial. The green one is also the only one on a bracelet, but there are a lot of aftermarket bracelets and straps available, because it fits the dimensions of the ultra popular SARB017.
Also check out if you are not bothered by the hands colours, the blue and black ones have silver hands.
Tissot Gentleman in black or blue would be my immediate thought even if it hits 40mm on the nose. Looks good on strap or bracelet, classy but ever so slightly sporty, versatile look, and good brand behind it. I’ve been thinking about one but haven’t pulled the trigger yet
There's only one answer, in my honest opinion, and it's the Seiko Alpinist.
For me it's either my casio lineage or my wisenad7. For me either would be perfect and they are my most worn watches
Personally I'm starting to lean much towards bigger watches so I was gonna say maybe the new G Shock Mudmaster for me (I haven't tried it yet and at $800 it's over my budget).
But this one you might like and fits what you said. Titanium, sapphire, solar, radio sync. 9mm thick. 44mm l2l. 37mm size or 40mm wide if including the button guards. $200 ish and comes in some 20 different style variations.
One of the most underrated watches ever

Definitely one to consider! Thanks for your suggestion 👍

Definitely one the best choices for versatility . Maybe less sporty the " baby" version. Thank you for the suggestion 👍
Versatile Smiths Commando
Christopher Ward C63 Sealander. I have the white dial GMT but other options are available.
My Dark Night Jack Mason Strat-o-timer - which has been on my wrist since receiving it months ago. $999, incredible specs and a solid, very high quality seven link jubilee bracelet w/ plenty of micro adjust, too. It came with an FKM tropic but it's staying on the jubilee - the whole watch screams premium and is incredibly comfortable, too (sorry for not posting a pic, btw).

I can see this is a 'hell of a watch".. in a positive way of course. Thanks for the suggestion 👍
My vote goes to the Seiko SPB317 ‘slim turtle’. It’s a robust watch, ‘strap monster’ and movement is OK and it’s slim… 😅. Great value
At that price the SPB143 forsure, that watch was a tank and looked great on everything. An Alpinist would be pretty great alternatively
