4 watches for the price of 1…

Earlier this year I was fixated on the Tudor Pelagos LHD.  I budgeted for it and was ready to buy one.  Right before I pulled the trigger, I had a rev...

commented on What's your opinion on the Doxa SUB 200? ·

I recently purchased 3 Doxa Sub 200s. 2 were gifts for my Dad (Sharkhunter) and brother (Caribbean). I went with the Aquamarine just to keep each watch in the set unique. We are all very pleased.

The movement isn't anything to write home about but I love that in a Diver's watch, it's reliable and affordable to service, exactly what a dive watch should be.

All 3 are on the BoR bracelet which is comfortable and looks great. Don't pay attention to gripes about the diver extension, I don't even notice it and am a believer that with the exception of the Pelagos spring system, diver extensions are mostly laughable gimmicks.

I'm not a huge fan of Fauxtina but the Sharkhunter and Caribbean wear it pretty well. The Aquamarine was a way to throw a splash of fun color into the collection and makes an excellent summer watch that dresses up nicely on the bracelet.

The 19mm lug width is a non issue. Plenty of cheap good options out there on the internets. The aquamarine looks great on a canvas or rubber Barton strap. The factory aquamarine strap was way too showy for my taste.

The lume as stated before isn't great but it is slightly better on the Aquamarine than the other two.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again. It's a great way to get into a Doxa and a vintage inspired dive watch.

If you want to stick at the same price point but get something resembling most of the Doxa dive watches, check out the new Synchron watches. Specifically the Poseidon model intrigues me since Poseidon is a legitimate scuba gear company although I havent done my homework yet on the current state of Synchron. (Time to open the can of worms on Doxa/Jenny/Synchron!!!)

Damn, I’ve lived in Ventura (part time) for 5 years but am sadly moving away at the end of January!

My first automatic watch was/is a Bretiling Navitimer.  I would definitely buy something else if I had a re-do.  After the honeymoon period was over, I fell out of love with it quickly, have never gotten the spark back and have only really held on to it for nostalgia purposes at this point (I purchased it at a major life milestone).

There’s nothing wrong with it per se, it’s just a lack of chemistry 🤷🏻

commented on GMT watches: What time zones are you tracking? ·

As an airline pilot, I think a bezeled office GMT is a better choice than a traveler GMT.

The main hands should stay on home time. (Most important)

The GMT hand should stay on Zulu (GMT) time.

Then the bezel gets easily and quickly spun to the timezone where you land.

Layovers are not usually long enough for me to want to mess with the crown and even if they are, half the time is spent sleeping.

I think traveler GMTs are better suited for business people or anyone spending more than 30 hours or so in a particular time zone.

I actually don’t currently have a GMT but am very close to picking the Farer Crooms bezel GMT.

Ok, I’ll use MSRP but subtract the discounts that the manufacturers offer on your first purchase on their website…

Paulin Neo B: $530

Namokimods 62MAS homage: $249-10% on first purchase=$224

Image

Timex Olive Marlin: $249-%15 on first purchase=$212

Total= $966 if my public math is correct.

Honorable mentions are the Seiko 5 GMT(didn’t want to copy previous post) and the Unimatic U2 with NH-35.

Agreed!  The Seiko Alpinist 1959 reinterpretation is an excellent choice in any of the dial colors.
