Why does Seiko think this is OK and why do we keep giving them our money? 🤪

Why indeed🤔

The craziest part is their prices have gone up a lot and the watches are not getting better. IMHO many of their best models are discontinued or cost more and quality has gone down. I think Orient is the best value for Japanese Automatic watches nowdays.

Cheap Chinese homage brands don't seem to have these QC problems. WTF Seiko? 🙄

·

I'm almost impressed they managed to do that...

·

Oops! Well at least you’ll always know which Seiko is yours.

·

My first Seiko was a disaster. Literally destroyed itself at the chronograph pushers (and had many design and comfort problems before that too). That was my last Seiko. Sold it to a guy who didn't care about the broken pusher (at a huge discount).

·

Ok that is a bad one. Normally I see people with their OCD riddled brains complaining about a slightly misaligned bezel or a dial marker off by 100th of a millimeter. But that is very out of tolerance, probably one of the worst I have seen from a brand. How did that pass QC inspection? like the crown is touching the crown protectors.

Seiko have QC inspection?

I'm hoping that is going straight back to where it came from!!

·

Didn't you notice something that wrong in the shop when purchasing cos that stands out a mile I hope someone can help you good luck 🤞

·

Interesting, I bought a Seiko 5 for my son's birthday (from amazon.com), and when it arrived, I opened the box up and took a look at the watch. The hour hand was bent, curled around the post. I returned it for a full refund, and bought a different Seiko for him, and thankfully this one was good. I hadn't realized that they had this level of QC fail. Does nobody even look at the watches they make anymore?

·

I will only buy one at an AD that I can see, feel and touch. Somewhat a bit sad.

·

Damn, that’s really bad. I think they’re in a position where they’re saying FUbto all their customers. Once they discontinued the SKX all went down, they were like “this is too good to be so cheap, we need to charge more for this or make worse thing for this price”

·

That’s their new ‘braking function’ crown so you don’t wind too fast 🥴

·

Seiko just wants your money because of the name not the quality and raise prices just because.

·

I say this all the time, but you all think I’m crazy. The hardcore Seiko fan is a mystery to me.

Does "notable QC issue" mean it doesn't exist or does it mean you are willing to accept the QC issue as "within tolerance"? Because i too have at least 15 seiko prospex watches and only a few of them i can consider without "defect" (misalignments are the most notable issue and a lesser extent is the inconsistent timekeeping of the 6R movements). None renders the watch inoperative but they do trigger my OCD.😄

These are the disadvantages of me buying through online sources i guess. It doesnt allow me the privilege to scrutinize the piece before paying. I live in a third world city in a third world country and the seikos sold at my local mall aren't the models i am after. Maybe this could explain why most of my seikos have qc issues - online sellers purposely ship the "bad" ones that doesnt get sold at their physical store because customers get a good look at them.

Yeah… I’d say the most egregious errors I’ve found on brand new Seiko watches (not talking about anything from the Presage or Grand Seiko lines here) are misaligned bezels and/or chapter rings (I’ve had one of each) and I had a SKX-007 with misaligned hands at the 12 o’clock so really not noticeable unless I was actually looking for it, but still a mild irritant.

Movement accuracy isn’t something I really track as I typically have several watches in regular rotation which leads to me rarely wearing the same watch day after day to be able to really notice significant inaccuracies in timekeeping.

That being said, I had a seconds hand fall off of my Omega Seamaster so it can happen to $500 watches and $5000 watches. And I’d much sooner excuse a misaligned chapter ring on a $300 watch over a missing seconds hand on a $5000 watch any day of the week.

Yikes on the seconds hand falling off 😱

·

And then there are the appalling unregulated movements

·

Are you sure this is genuine? Japanese brands usually do not have these errors

100% sure it is genuine.

You must not have much seiko prospex exposure 😄. Youre lucky 😆

I do have two prospex though

I've always thought Seiko should buy their bracelets from the same factory as San Martin. Maybe they should get them to make the watches too.....

·

Seiko QC is really shocking. I have stopped buying them due to issues. The only Seiko I'd consider in the future would be a GS.

I have yet to experiece their 6L and 8L lineup. Maybe less issues the higher up the price bracket we go? Hehe

·

I feel like Seiko need to stop purposefully making shoddy affordable watches. I owned a Seiko Ananta that was finished to perfection, so I already know what they are capable of.

·

I’ve never seen a fault like that. I have had a bunch of seikos and all have been very very good in fact my newest is fantastic and if it were Swiss made it would have been twice the price or more. That’s why I keep paying the price. The finishing is the equal of any watch I’ve owned and the movement is running at about plus 2 seconds in fact only the divers extension is below par and it could do with on the fly adjustment. But I still think they offer great value

I've just been let down in several purchases by QC issues. My next purchase is likely to be a GS. I'll leave the othrr Seiko range alone now unfortunatley.

Maybe the first Seiko was a fake one, Amazon has a problem with fake products beign sold with a "legit" product description.

YEEEES THEY DO&customer service reps know it

That's actually horrid. The only seiko I own is a mark 1/generation 1 orange monster. I love that watch, but it doesn't have any QC issues that I've found yet. The bezel and chapter ring even align.

I wouldn't buy a modern Seiko due to what I've seen lately, especially given the prices they're charging. Personally, I just think there's far better options for the money.

I have a few sickos, all good.my new KS sucks!!! Broke twice within a week of purchase.I’m done with seiko!!!
