UH OH… I’ve man maths justified a Submariner… hear me out 😂

Right. So. Massive flash of inspiration just happened. I’ve totally justified why buying a 124060 is actually entirely practical and prudent…

I used to own a 14060M. Have really fond memories. Resent having to let it go.

Given I keep coming back to it in my head. Every time I see an alternative I’d like to buy, in the back of my mind I’m asking myself… but at the AD, right there and then, if the SA whipped out a Sub and offered me it… what would I do?! Honestly… I’d have a hard time not buying the Sub.

So here’s the logic… buy a god damn sub otherwise I’m gonna waste thousands buying alternatives that I’ll still always compare.

The icon. The watch almost everything else comparable is a homage of. I genuinely think I need to have one back.

So, financially it would actually save me money….

It could even cure me. Imagine that. Not even wanting to buy another watch after.

Okay that’s total lies but that’s what I’d tell the wife at the time 😂

I also recently posted an angry thread about the rolex price rises and how a Sub wasn’t worth £8k and they can suck it.

In hindsight WHAT A COPE as was my subconscious (no pun) screaming at me.

So there you go.

Have I done a good job in justifying it crunchers? 😂🤷‍♂️

Unless you are justifying it to your wife I think 90% of watch enthusiast will agree to buy it. While I'm not a fan of the sub I am a fan of a man getting their dream watch.

Ahhhh…. Now is it a dream watch?

It’s certainly something I’d probably not tire of slipping into for the rest of my life 😂

And this isn’t about justifying it to the wife, it’s me justifying it to me…

I mean, like, I think you'd actually live longer. I mean, think of how angry you'd be without the Sub. That's stress and *boom* just like that you'd be dead. You should be able to deduct it from your health insurance, as far as I can tell, right?

·

I’d estimate how long you think you’d keep it, how often you’d wear it, and calculate the average cost from there. Then make a decision. I call this “average cost per wear.” Only you can decide how much that should be. I like to keep mine under $3, or a price of a cup of coffee wear I live.

What else do you break down in your life like this? 👀😂

Yes, I agree with everything in this. The submariner is THE dive watch. It is THE watch. You should never settle for compromises and not only is it a good deal but it’s a great deal from the AD. You will likely lose no money if you ever had to sell and might even make a small profit.

I am team submariner until the day I die

That's the easy bit over with 😂

I keep thinking of other watches to get that can replace it. I keep coming back to the sub one of the three watches I must have. Though it’s tempting to get something now, I will wait it out for when I can purchase one.

Here is some more man math for you:

You are not actually buying anything, you are just exchanging currency for an asset of equal value.

You can get your money back anytime you wish, and if you wait long enough…you will make a profit!!

·

The way to cost any asset is to work out it's depreciation over a fixed period of time. So work out how much it will depreciate over say 5 years. I estimate it will be better than 0. So basically it's free. And who doesn't like free stuff?

Or you could just buy the original dive watch the 50 Fathoms......

Yep, love this logic. Amazing. So much simpler than mine haha

Lots of things. Take cars for example. They’re so expensive now that unless you own them for ten years the value over leasing isn’t really there.
