Speedmaster reduced thoughts

Been looking at maybe adding this to my Omega family. I love the 39mm dial and the wearability. I'm Cognizant of the fact that the movement is a modular modified movement.

What are your opinions?

Thanks and have a great day

Surely Omega will get on with the times, realize the trend towards smaller watches, and eventually release a modern and updated version of the late 90s Speedie reduced and mid-size Seamaster. Surely. A man can dream. 😭

They can't stay out of touch for ever, right? We might even get an on-the-fly adjustable clasp if we're lucky, 5 years after the competition.

I have a similar movement in a Daniel JeanRichards Chrono and there are some quirks such as the minute hand would slightly shift forward when you start the chronograph. I read it’s a common issues with DD chrono modiles. Other then that it’s perfect for the size in terms of thickness. I find the Valjoux 775X series to be just a bit to thick for my liking.

Yes I saw this in a review video as well.

I don't get why Omega doesn't go for a taper style bracelet? Similar issues with Grand Seiko's as well. Don't they realise that the bracelet is a pretty big part of the watch.

If you are in the market for a speedmaster, definitely take a look at the Speedmaster 3513. It is also automatic and can be found in good condition for $2k and under. Really handsome watch and wears beautifully. Measures 39x45x14 (similar to the Reduced on paper but i havne't tried a reduced on to compare).

I think they look better than the Reduced and the pushers and crown are all on the same plane (a common gripe about the Reduced is that the pushers are slightly above the crown).

That's a beautiful piece. I've seen these as well but the position of the sun dials does something weird for my OCD 😂

Edit: sub not sun

·

I would go for a full size with dedicated movement.

But that is just me.

·

I really like the white dial option 😍

I agree the sub dial proportions are a bit wacked, which is my only gripe with the reduced.

That was my very first expensive watch purchase back in the 80s. Cost me a little over $500 a JCPenney. I miss that watch. Back then if you looked closely there was an Omega symbol in the center of the crystal. Yes I would buy it!

I already have a professional moonphase speedy (my chonky sapphire Sandwich boi) so was thinking of a smaller size

·

If you’re able to, head to an Omega boutique or AD. I have a 6.25 in wrist and usually shy away from anything above 40 mm, but the Speedy Pro wears beautifully. (I think it’s only 40 at the case, 42 at the bezel.) Given the proportions (dial and case) and movement, I’d skip the Reduced and go for the Pro.

·

Consider something with the 7750 movement in it, it's not modular and offers a date or even triple date options. I have a 3513.50 and it's awesome, perfect size, automatic, date, killer movement, I love everything about it

One thing is for certain, it’s not the movement size that preventing Omega from shrinking their case size if they so choose…. The Tag Heuer Carrera red-editions from the 90’s used the same movement and were 35mm cases. I can see Omega going down 38mm since that’s where all their current “midsize” lineup seems to fall.

It’s a mechanical Speedy at reduced cost.. if you are not keen on having the speedy professional, this is take care of that itch

·

It is a great watch! I have a small wrist, measuring at 6in, and for me I wanted a Speedy that felt like it was truly mine. I have zero regrets, fits perfect, and carries the heritage and legacy of the Speedmaster. #omega

·

I own a Speedy 'reduced' and it wear very comfortable but if I want to use it for what it was intended for i can read the darn thing LOL..Just getting old..Enjoy the hobby

Twenty odd years ago I chose one of these over a speedy pro not only was it an auto it had a date sapphire crystal applied markers lovely polished hands elegant clasp . It was much more luxurious and suitable size. Obviously I knew nothing about the moonwatch history or appreciate its quality’s back then. But I loved the auto it’s a fantastic watch that even after 20 years ran like a dream and looked amazing. Great choice sir 😊

If you're worried about the size of a Speedy Pro, my advice is to try one on first. It wears smaller than it's specs would lead you to believe, and it's one of most wearable chronographs under $10k. But if you like the look of the Reduced or Date/Day-Date, then that's cool too.

·

i dont want to dive into this omega speedmaster reduced line... it might hurt my bank account! 😂

i want one someday but i refuse to research as it will pull me to procure one.

·

I love my reduced 👏🏼

This is so good

·

This was one of those random watches one runs into that had a captivaing effect upon the wrist.

I had a really hard time walking away from it at $1.5K USD but couldn't rationalize another chrono. I still think about it from time to time.

·

The Speedy is one of the finest watches in the world. I have the last gen Speedy Moon watch, it’s 40 with short lugs so it wears smaller than some other 40’s. I live this watch.

I don’t know that the modular movement matters.

Check out the 3523.80. Speedy Triple Calendar. 39mm. Beautiful blue sunburst dial Omega 1151 movement which is essentially an ETA/Valjoux 7751. That means no module and all the pushers/crown line up. Also, can be had for around 2k USD.

I traded my Speedy Pro and I don’t miss it. I disagree that it wears smaller than specs suggest.

I am a fan of the Reduced. It wears so much smaller, lighter, thinner and more comfortable on me than the Pro. It’s got a great vintage chrono appeal.

I would like to grab a Reduced but they have also gone up in price dramatically in the past few years. When I first started looking at them, they were a steady $1600-1650 all day long. Now???

There is still a modern 38mm Speedy if that’s more your thing.

Wow I wasn't aware of this version. Omega has so many models that it makes it hard to track at times 🤣
