How deep can a watermelon dive anyway?
I went to my local AD’s annual “Time Out” watch fair this weekend. Stopped by the Zodiac display and got to talk to their national brand manager, Michael Pearson. He’s a fun and knowledgeable guy. Got a a good story on the history and fairly recent revival of Zodiac as a brand. I’ve admired their look online and I’m always on the lookout for interesting new titanium watches. He had one in the case that fit the bill, the Super Sea Wolf Pro-Diver Titanium. This is a limited edition, mine is 277/282. According to Mike, this is a return to a more ‘serious’ dive watch for Zodiac as it is ISO 6425 certified to 300 m. It has the STP 1-11 movement, but regulated to the COSC chronometer standard. Oh yeah and it‘s a watermelon! The lume is pretty outrageous, but with the black dial, the overall look is harmonious and fits in with traditional dive watch colors. The titanium case and bracelet are all satin finished, which also brings down the bling level. There are some sharp edges on the lugs but on the wrist you don’t feel them, the overall fit and finish are good and this is a comfortable wear. No micro-adjustment on the butterfly clasp, but there’s a little spring loaded give in the attachments of the clasp to the bracelet, so this should be a good all day wear. The bracelet is not meant for dive duty IMHO, but in the kit you get a nice feeling nylon strap with dual velcro closures and a spring bar tool. I will give that a test next year with some beach & on the water wear. Mike said this limited run was a start of expansion of the Zodiac line, more new issues to come soon. I’ll give this one a better review after I’ve had it a while; for now, this a fun and tough addition to the watch box and certainly will be easy to find in the dark!
