Lume fell out of the bezel on my Seamaster 300. High end fake or QC issue?

Title says it all. Obviously I will be going to visit an Omega store as soon as my travels take me near one. Has anyone ever seen anything like this happen before?

Seamaster 300 Heritage. I’ve had the watch about 6 months. Received it as a gift. Purchased from an established seller and authenticated by EBay. Box papers and filled in warranty card dated 1/23. All of the cards RF scan properly and link to the correct serial number. It’s registered to me on the Omega site. My local AD has seen and handled the watch a few times and not commented on it. It keeps between 3 and 5 seconds a day.

I just spent a week on the beach in a very hot and insanely humid part of the USA. In and out of 65-70f AC and 90-100f pool/ocean/outside.

I went back and checked my photos. It seems the lume began to disappear right after my first visit to the pool. This watch has seen plenty of water prior to this trip without issue.

There have been others who have posted photos of lume falling out of the bezels of their watches... a NTTD Seamaster and a Tudor Pelagos, if I remember correctly.

You should be able to have it all fixed under warranty, no problem.

This is shocking for the grail watch on my watchlist. Please keep us posted on the resolution.

They need to replace that bezel. I've seen it happen on other watches. It doesn't mean it's fake.

·

It’ll be the subtle expansion/contraction of the material. I am forever repainting the bezel numbers on my (significantly cheaper) Titanium chrono for the same reason. It’s a ceramic inlay isn’t it? I imagine sealing over the lume on the plate wouldn’t be something they do as it would impact the quality of the lume.

As to is it a fake? I’m very far from an expert, but it doesn’t sound like it — even if it’s a little surprising it would happen to so high quality a watch, at the same time, you do describe some extreme shifts.

·

I’m not sure but maybe most of the watch is authentic but maybe some parts like your bezel is not. I’d be interested to hear what Omega has to say about it. Let us know and good luck.

·

It can happen, even to great brands. Luckily they should cover it.

·

I hope the AD will help fix this and pray it's under warranty. Second, I sincerely congratulate you on wearing your watch. #no_safe_queens

Using a watch, or any tool, everyday WILL cause wear and tear. There is no way around it. I've personally had my Lorier worked on locally already since it wasn't magnetized, but still running too fast.

While the guy I use for service/seal checks was under the hood I had him calibrate the Miyota more than factory since, why not and he said he could get better accuracy from it.

Repair costs, warranties, dealing with AD'S etc is mainly the only reason I do not have a Tudor/Omega/Rolex/etc yet. I have nowhere to take it to for repairs, and don't want to send the watch off via mail.

My suspicion is it’s just a QC issue. I deal a lot with thermal expansion and caustic chemicals in my profession. If surfaces are not perfectly prepped before painting it’s just a matter of time before they fail. I put this watch through more stress in the last week then many see in a lifetime. I didn’t even mention the elevation changes it’s seen in the last 2 weeks. Fingers crossed Omega is easy to deal with.

I will. Just FYI… aside from this issue it’s an absolutely fantastic watch. I wear it every day and enjoy every minute.

·

That is so strange… I have the black version of this watch that I bought direct from an omega boutique. Now that you mention it I have always sort of viewed the bezel as being somewhat fragile. It sounds like you have the papers to back it up. Definitely worth looking into that, but I’d imagine it’s legit.

Send it back to Omega, get it sorted under warranty.

I've got the previous model (2014) got it used 4 years ago & worn it hard - broke off the crown last year so sent it to be fixed & serviced. £480 & 4 months . Has it back since March, continue to wear it more often than not & running 0-+2 on my timegrapher (runs most accurately when worn ) . Love it.

Good luck mate, keep us all posted 👍

The AD will replace the bezel. Does not cost that much if out of warranty, and nothing under warranty

Hi there, is the bezel black and the dial blue, or does it just apear like that in the picture? Also is this bezel ceramic or aluminium? The watch looks genuin, but if it is a black ceramic bezel on a blue dial watch then it is a fake bezel at least, because the configuration does not exist in the cataloge.

Also does it have the quick hour feature? If not it is probablly fake😉

It’s blue on blue aluminum with jump hour.

It’s blue on blue aluminum with jump hour.

Then it should be alright. As far as i know, the jump hour is really hard to fake😉

At this point I’m pretty sure it’s real. If it’s a fake it’s so good that it almost doesn’t matter lol. I’m more surprised that a watch with a warranty card that’s only 6 months old is having this issue at all.

·

I'm shocked this can happen, especially since I also own an Omega Seamaster 300 😲

·

Even if it is covered by the warranty, at this price level, and from Omega, this is not acceptable.

·

I had a Rolex that broke the 2nd year I owned it, and the 3rd, and the....

The idea that expensive watches don't break is a myth.

·

I’ve read of lume falling out on watches, unfortunately it does happen. Take to omega, they will sort it out as it’s still u see warranty.

Any update on how much a replacement bezel costs/what the dealer said the problem is? I ask because after seeing this I am thinking my same SM300 might be susceptible to the same thing. This really concerns me as I don't like to baby that watch as it's a forever keeper for me.

I'd almost like to buy a backup bezel to use for my travels and dive trips. Such a shame the bezel isn't more sound...

No it will be a few weeks before my travels bring me near an Omega dealer. This will be a warranty issue (card is dated 1/23) so it shouldn’t cost anything. If I were you I wouldn’t worry about it until it happens. I suspect this was a case of old Lume paint or maybe the bezel wasn’t properly cleaned before the paint was applied. Probably a 1 in 100 kind of thing.

Yes, probably a rare QC issue let's hope! Either way please keep me posted on what they say if you don't mind. Good luck!

(Love the photos of your Seamaster 300 on your page btw. Makes me want to wear it on more adventures!)

UPDATE:

Omega is covering all repairs and shipping (both ways) under warranty!
