Seiko SRPG27K1: It comes with a free mouse

My first automatic watch, one week down. What are my impressions...

For those of you who don't care to read waffle basically I like this watch. Will be wearing it alot, pleased with my choice. Thank you for coming.

For those of you bored enough to read my half-baked musings on this watch here we go...

First day was excellent, new watch means a new me obviously and damn I owned an automatic watch so basically thought I was a watch god 😂. Looked at it alot, too much. Hmmmm is that second hand as smooth as I thought it would be? Resized the bracelet with parts from my high quality £22 Amazon special watch kit. Finished the day believing I was pretty much ready to open my own repair shop.

Day two and I woke up early and with 100m WR thought I would try it in the shower. As seems to be my speciality with a new watch, battered the watch into the tiling mid shower. Cue what I will call that 'near miss in a car' feeling, no damage on first inspection but I have definitely shaved around 2/3 days off of my life expectancy. The rest of the day it was comfortable at the desk when typing and slipped under my cuff to save marking the desk which was kind of it.

The third day arrived, my wife noticed it existed in the morning, said it looked boring and could I make some coffee. Fair enough. Kept hearing little squeaks from the bracelet, nothing too annoying. Starting to appreciate the applied indices and weight of this watch though.

The fourth and thankfully for you penultimate day of this overtly long and drawn out review...why have Seiko trapped a mouse in this bracelet. Surely they wouldn't do such a thing, PETA would stop them...right? Every single time I angle my wrist to check the time...SQUEAK...🤦 Those silent, resin Casio straps are mocking me for trying to step up in the watch world right now. Later that evening stashed the Seiko in my watch box for fear my wife would make me move the fridge to look for this 'mouse'. Did experience the lume for a moment though before closing the box, it was decent.

The final day of its week on my wrist (congrats btw if you read this far, I wouldn't have) and I decided it was my workmanship resizing the bracelet that caused the squeaking. Using my minutes of watch repair experience I 'checked-over' the watch and concluded that nothing was loose. Gave up and ordered a NATO for it. It is a field watch after all. Went out that afternoon to pick up a French stick and constantly pushed up the cuff of my hoodie. It was as if I was expecting the late middle-aged lady at the tills in Sainsbury's to proclaim me king of the supermarket due my excellent horological choice and offer the bread for free as a sacrifice to my godliness.

My final thoughts...negatives are no sapphire, a mouse lives in the bracelet and the clasp is pressed (that's a gripe amongst proper reviewers right..?). Positives, looks fantastic, applied indices really pop, size is great for my wrist and it's my first auto so I obviously love wearing it. It gets an 8.2/10 losing marks mainly because of the mouse.

Well done. Very entertaining review of your week.

Do you have any sound clippings of the bracelet? Fortunately, I have never had a bracelet squeak on me.

It did kind of turn into less of a review of a watch as I was writing it to be fair 😂

You have a good writing voice. Maybe watches can be a starting point for your stories? Following you to read more.

Not to hand, I didn't think to record it in all honesty.

Thanks, I'll do my best but no promises it won't just be utter nonsense! 👍

Thank you, it is a great watch and I think your 31 has more of a bead blasted finish which I didn't notice was different (and more epic) until after my purchase of the 27...slight bit of jealousy here...

i think blasted finished fit more to the field watch genre (no offense)😂. thx to marc from long island watch, i watch his review before deciding

Finally, a proper real-world review. "I twatted it on a door frame and it's ok" is the kind info we really need! 😁

Great review 👍

Cheers! I do my best to damage my watches so you don't have to! 👍

Great post and I appreciate the detail. I'm literally buying this watch instead of the Hamilton automatic field watch. They look almost the same except the hamilton has a better bracelet and sapphire but it's a 325$ price difference and I already have a solid milled bracelet for it so the only difference then is sapphire which again isn't worth 325 for me. I think the watch head itself punches way above its weight class.

Thanks and I fully agree it definitely punches well above. Pricing is awesome if you shop around (as always with Seiko) Where did you get your bracelet?

The squeaking usually comes from the clasp hinge, in contrast to rattle from the links. Pretty much any gun lubricant will take care of it.

Island watches. But I've had it for a bit for another watch ans never got to use it so it's still new. And fits it. So that watch with a good bracelet is really an awesome piece.

Might be tricky to find gun lubricant in the UK but I appreciate the tip regardless!

Hahaha I loved this review, great job! Love that watch too; a great choice!

Okay, well ... I think Breakfree CLP is being sold in the UK. You might also be able to work lithium grease into it. (Most of my Chinese bracelets were squeaky, and Invicta was horrible in that regard.)

Excellent shout thank you, I'll have a scout about on Amazon see what they offer in terms of either of those options.

I really enjoyed your review, made me smile.😀

It would look damn fine on a black and silver nato in addition to culling the mouse.

I went safe and boring ordering a black NATO, should have been more adventurous!

Here's my Aquaracer on said nato strap.  Adds something extra to it I like to think.

Entertaining review of a cool watch. I don't accept folded endlinks so I'd put it on a textile strap. Goodbye mouse.

Thanks 👍 I'm hoping to try out a fair number of different straps as it seems quite versatile.

Reminds me of the Hamilton Interstellar, nice

Great review as was your regrettably purchased casio one I have just also read. I largely share your taste in affordable stuff and your reviews offer light relief from the daily grind...keep it up please! I'm a new follower...
