Do you even grow your own crystals bro?

Apparently Grand Seiko's are pretty good watches. They have a couple of factories in Japan, exclusively birthing them. If you take their website at face value they are hand made by two people who have been trained in the art of watch making for 14,000 years. Additionally, they appear to have a personal cave system belching out their own Quartz crystals. So yup, you've guessed it...I bought one of their Quartz models. Now I could wax lyrical about how they are hand made, ultra-accurate, all metal construction, 50 year service interval Quartz movements with blah, blah, blah inside etc in an attempt to reason with you, the reader, as to why I didn't go for a Spring Drive or Mechanical model. Let's be real, I went for the Quartz model because I couldn't justify the price of the other models. I've made my peace with that and there are zero complaints from me on the watch itself but let's not kid ourselves eh!!

My usual reviews involve a variety of mundane activities I undertook with my latest purchase and I won't disappoint...

Sunday...Ordered the watch, my wife was oddly supportive and I was right to have been suspicious as later that evening she casually dropped in the fact that given it was expensive I couldn't possibly be needing any other watches this year. Click and collect will be my friend this year then.

Monday...god bless next day delivery and DPD with their 1 hour timeslots. I did zero work all morning. Watch arrived, unboxing was anticlimactic. Jeeeeepers, screws for screw links are tiny. Removed two full and one half link. I put more effort into it than I have done at work for the month. Is this watch boring? S##t it is isn't it? What have I done. Saw my neighbour as we were putting out the recycling...he didn't compliment my watch...big mistake on his part as I won't be taking in another of his Amazon parcels ever again.

Tuesday...Joined the GS9 fanboy club. Went full geek, reading posts and feeling superior with my +10 seconds per year accuracy. I am washing my hands like I have a paper watch on my wrist...I can't live like this. Noticed the dial has an almost off grey matte sheen in the right light...oddly no one in my life cared though. I went to sleep feeling hard done by.

Wednesday...my 6 month old daughter got Sweet potato puree all over it tonight. That's it...that's all I remember as I must have blacked out in a panic when it happened.

Thursday...Took the GS outside, to a Tesco (I know, I know it should be Waitrose now). Not one person noticed I was wearing a new watch. Caught the edge ever so slightly on the edge of one of the freezers. Minimum 5 years off my life. Seriously doubting if I can daily this thing in the fear that if I scratch it a man from Seiko Japan will come to my house and take it back.

Friday...I genuinely like this watch. God it's boring but that's why I like it. It's rock solid and hasn't skipped a beat. Quality piece. Casually fell down the stairs after lunch. Probably due to my big head now I own a debatably 'luxury' watch. Decided to write this post and now fear it isn't as funny as my previous ones...is the watch turning me into a boring person. Will I be the kind of person who now talks about accuracy and in-house grown Quartz crystals at the pub...

7/10 - Chiefly due to the fact that its the first watch I've owned that actually feels like every part of it is put together properly. There's no one aspect that feels like a compromise...
