BALL Roadmaster Marine GMT Meteorite

What do you all think of this new offering starting at $3,099 USD?

Seems to be a lot of value for the dollar if you ask me. A lot happening here and I’m sure not for everyone. Nothing is.

I don’t own a BALL but it seems to me they are often forgotten when people are looking for a quality timepiece.

This is gonna sound silly but: just my opinion. I like their designs but the counter balance on those seconds hands always felt odd. It seems so overly fancy on their sporty pieces. Like removing the jumbo-tron from the center of a basketball court & replacing it with a chandelier.

I get it. That’s one thing I don’t care for. Reminds me of Invicta seconds hand.

Not a shot at Invicta but this is a bit different of a watch we’re talking about.

Lovely watch spoilt by the date complications

·

Is that a meterite dial?

·

I have 2 Ball Watches, Fireman Nightbreaker & Fireman Stormchaser. The Stormchaser has been on my wrist for 11 days now and is off by only +4 seconds. Excellent bang for the buck.

I'm 70+ so I don't think I'll outlive the Tritium Lume.

To each their own, but it’s a little busy for my tastes

I think it’s a combination of lot of things you want in a watch..

  • Pepsi bezel for that color pop against white dial (Rolex inspired). For those who like colors

  • GMT - mostly I use it as a day night function but it’s very useful when I travel.

  • Day-date function (I love it and need it for my job when I sign a lot of documents)

  • Tritium dial so you don’t have to worry about not fading glow for next 12 years( half-life of tritium). It will fade to half its luminosity in 12 years and can send to #ball to replace those tubes at a cost

  • Meteorite dial - fancy

It is on my list..

I think the Ball watches are an excellent value. Yes it isnt the company it was but heck none of them are any longer. Someone said in twenty years you will have to replace the 'tubes' Im sorry but when it comes to my watch collection I never think that far out,LOL Beside I'll be dead Im allready 75..LOL . But what you like and enoy the hobby...JMO

I’m 56 and sure hope I have 20 years left but that’s not a deciding factor.

Heck, any of these watches we’re supposed to service and they are going to cost us bucks regardless.

·

Can you tell us more? I know someone who asked support and they said they could offer that service no problem (replacing the tubes)

I just feel that it’s redundant. Like triple branding. There are some where it can pulled off (zenith’s star counterbalance), but it looks like it draws too much attention to itself.

My biggest gripes are that

  • it’s unclear to me whether they use butterfly clasps for all of these Roadmaster Marine GMTs. Most listings and images I see butterfly ones but on others I’ve seen normal tri-fold clasps. And with respect to their brand it feels like an odd choice.

  • They chose (still) to use needlessly inarticulate endlinks. If I end up getting one, I might try to find a person who can file off the ends that touch the front of the lugs

I do like that it’s a day-date GMT a lot. That’s pretty close to my idea everyday watch. I hope improve the modification and make it so that only one pusher/crown is needed, as the current set up is looks a little crude and finicky.

Yeah. I wouldn’t be as concerned if I got a luminox but I would be worried about the, messing up the dial by accident, bc I presume those markers are glued on or something.

From what I’ve read about Ball’s customer support, their lack of transparency about the set up of the business feels like it plays a part in it and overall seems to be pretty mixed.

I think if they eventually wore off I’d ask someone to just pain them with lume

See I got a luminox and I’m disappointed with the lume

The Nightbreaker is fairly good, not as bright as really good luminova, but bright enough.

The Stormchaser is not as bright as the Nightbreaker. Mainly because the Tritium tubes are every small.
