Finally worked up the courage to take it in

Don’t know why there was such a mental barrier to going swimming with it. It almost literally says you can on the dial. I guess on the flip side it is the most expensive thing I own by far. But now Ive crossed the barrier and completely stopped babying it. Anyone else have/recently overcome the same issues?

I was always worried about taking any of my watches in the water. It wasn't until I took my Orient Mako II into the pool that I became more comfortable wearing any of my watches in the water. Now I have no issues taking them in and it's more which one I choose for comfort when swimming (usually a G shock or my Casio Edifice)

I shower with every watch that’s 100m WR and higher and has a screw-down crown upon receiving it. If there are any issues, it will be covered by warranty. I do this so I know I can trust it in normal day to day activities.

Yes, with my SM300 . Once I broke the crown off & had it repaired (+ service ,£490 & 4 months) & it came back like new I stopped worrying about it. 👍

That was a proper heart in mouth moment tho 😱😂

Oh jeez, that would terrify me. Although I’m glad you’ve put that comment in as it makes me feel a lot better about things.

The Gshock knocks the Seamaster off the wrist if I’m doing active swimming. Or anything active at all…

Haha. I know it sounds dumb. And once I got over the initial barrier I agree.

Why do I need a watch while swimming?

·

I took my DJ in the ocean like 13 seconds after I got it.

·

Haha, 😏 I remember cleaning a gold watch with a toothbrush for the first time. Must feel similar...

Fishes ain't got clocks, be a helpful human

·

Yep, my car. The most expensive thing I own outside of my house.

·

Ha, a good read. And, while tongue and cheek, some good points made. Honestly for 90% of my year I agree with you. For summer holiday time when we stop off at beaches from time to time the choice is either leave the watch at home or leave it sitting on the beach and neither appeal to me…

Why do I need a watch while swimming?

For the same reason we need one on land. (The answer is entirely illogical either way…)

Taking your reply completely literally has cracked me up!

Just spent a week in the ocean with mine. I did switch it from omega mesh to nato after the first day in the surf. 🍻

“never buy a watch you are afraid to wear” -somebody recently

Edit: as to why I wear a watch in the water…. To be aware of how much time I’m spending in the sun. After a long hard life in the sun my skin has started to mutate. I need to be conscious of how much exposure I get now.

So it doesn't get stolen when you leave it on the beach.

·

I’m always excited when I get the opportunity to use my watch for its intended purpose!

Probably not going to the moon in this one, but…

Yep! 450 degrees, seasoned salt, three minutes a side!

I tinker or mod quite a bit of my collection. First time into the pool or at the beach is always a little nerve-racking. Definitely test of the resolve and confidence of my abilities, but I haven’t had one fail YET!

·

All my water resistance rated watches see the ocean, lakes, pools, showers. Congratulations on using that watch as designed

Yeah, did me. But one it's been broken and mended again it becomes less worrying & more enjoyable because I'm not worrying about it all the time 👍

In general I baby my watches (beyond just water exposure) but I do have a few GADA watches that I expose to water and other activities that could result in damage. I will deliberately change my watch if I know I am likely to do such an activity…. Ie if going to the beach, I would change watches.

It is quite liberating, but understand.
