Would you pay $1,650 for a G-Shock?

With the next line of the titanium G-Shock GMW-B5000 coming out soon (hopefully in the UK!), I'm left wondering how many people would pay $1,650 for a digital watch?

With some of the MR-G range retailing for $4,000 and over, using premium materials and finishing techniques and materials, I'm wondering if you all think G-Shock fans are crazy for handing over this much for the latest installment.

The titanium bracelet and clasp appear to be a work of wonder, and a sapphire glass + screw down case back are both selling points.

Personally, I love the design and materials, and having fallen out of love with Rolex, I think Casio have earned a slot in the watch box, even at this price.

This watch is well outside my usual collecting range, which is budget and entry level for the most part. I have a few watches that exceed $300 in my collection (my GMWB5000 is one of them 😂), but most of my collection falls below $300.

Having said that, when you consider all that you are getting in a G Shock Steel, I think they are generally worth the price, and I had no problem exceeding my usual budget for my GMWB5000. 😀

I'm in the same space as @Candide3693, I'd spend that $1650 on either multiple others or a mechanical Swiss

I won’t be buying one of these myself because I don’t pay this much for any watch, however if I could spend that I would so I don’t think you’re crazy. I might feel a little envious though. 😉 I also think they look great.

What options would work for you with the same budget? (One mechanical Swiss for $1650)

Personally, "Swiss made" badge doesn't lend as much to a watch (to me), with great stuff coming from Germany, Japan and other countries currently

Hell would have to freeze over before I spent $1650 on a digital watch - that's Valjoux Swiss automatic chronograph money (e.g. Tissot PRX Chronograph; Hamilton Intramatic).  It costs Casio maybe $5 to produce the module for that thing.  All of the money is in the titanium and the manufacturing for that -- but we know it doesn't cost that much as there are plenty of brands doing it for $300 and $400 watches.

Yeah...some of the Mudmaster, Frogman or Gravity Master MRG's I would. Why?...because my inner soul trembles with rapturous salvation when I hold one!

If I had that coin to drop on a watch, I'd probably get a Steinhart and a Hamilton

Too much, but it does looks like something a mobile suit pilot would wear.

To me its a bit over my budget. with that amount I can get me 3-5 watches. Its a nice sleek looking watch but I for sure If it was given to me as a gift then I be very honored.😀

I was just thinking this very thought Ross ! And you know what... i'd have to try it on at the Boutique and if i liked it then the answer would be a resounding YES ! No way would i part with all those sheckles blind off the net. A high end G made with quality parts is an interesting proposition, certainly for collector's looking for something different.
