Black, cream, white and red make this dial exceptionally engaging .plus the wonderful short tapered lugs. I don’t think this watch can be improved stylistically.

Hmm… 🧐 holy grail is a tough question cause I have so many watches that are on my list that I hope to own someday. The red 1680 submariner is a great choice for a holy grail since one in great condition, unpolished & truly 100% all original hands dial & bracelet is very very difficult to find and must garner a very high asking price. That said I think my holy grail watch would be either a birth year Rolex Submariner 14060 or 16610. I would love to say something like a Patek Philippe 1518 or a Philippe Dufour simplicity in steel but as beautiful as those watches are, they do not fit my lifestyle as I love to take my watches into the water and take them on walks with my dog so based on that, the Patek & Dofour don’t fit into what I would want to do with my watch 😁
That is a great watch, but in the world of Rolexes with red text I would have to go for a 1665 double red Sew Dweller. Maybe some day, but would need to really commit to it (fund it with a number of other watches + my 1665 great white).

Lovely piece
Oh but there are pieces available- check https://www.bobswatches.com/vintage-rolex-1 but the 1680 “Red” is hard to find

My grail is the Credor Eichi II.

Spot on
Do you feel comfortable taking a vintage diver of that age into the water?

Well it is a diver so why not? But I understand your question. I would let it be tested on water resistancy if possible
Besides that…..i am not really kind on swimming with an expensive watch on

Yeah I don't know how many people feel confident wearing a vintage 50+ year old diver into any real depths of water
Man that's one tall top hat or domed crystal. I didn't realize it was designed like that 🤯
Right now it’s the vertex dirty dozen watches. Both the vintage one and the reissue

There be but one grail.
Grail Rolex: 124270 Explorer
Grail in general: the last generation of Fortis Official Cosmonauts Chronograph
I‘m happy and blessed to already have my Holy Grail 🙏🏻
Very nice, I’ve seen a birth year 1975 I’d like, I’d like a high end birth year watch
My Sub purchased back in 2007 after major event in my life.
I took this photo of the 1680 for my client, SwissWatchExpo, and it's still up for sale (here's the link in case you want to check it out: https://www.swisswatchexpo.com/watches/rolex-submariner-date-steel-black-dial-mens-vintage-watch-1680-55569/).
Seeing it in person was surreal. It's a legend!
One of these!
Nomos Ahoi 40mm
Or a Luminor Base, one without the small seconds.
I like my grails achievable. So no super high luxury, not even Rolex territory.
this is my grail watch - Explorer 1016 , 36mm of pure perfection

That is definitely grail worthy. I'm so practical, I can't even dream that big. lol

The Milgauss with the blue dial has always been one of my favourite Rolex, too bad it's discontinued and the prices are rising.

I bought my grail last year. Panerai 422. It's a stunner.
