TISSOT PRX POWERMATIC 80 Review

I’ve had this watch on my radar for a long time I put it once on a duty free and just went crazy for it. My standards for a good watch is probably different from many, as this is my most expensive watch to date, granted I’ve only been collecting watches for a couple of months, so I felt the need to mention it. This is my first written review and I had to make it about a watch that had been reviewed to death LOL. I’ll just say that try the watch first and if you like it then just buy it. I have a small wrist size, and the watch just feels too “long“ lug to lug for my wrist I can’t help but think if I should have gotten the 35mm. I’ve had it for a couple of days after fawning over it for a while. I can’t say that I am disappointed but I tried it in November(I’ll also try and post the photos of the first time I tried it) and fell in love with it but I guess the blue dial made it a lot more dressy than I previously thought, I tried the light blue dial and it looked great and dressy but still usable as a day-today watch. I work at a hospital so I regularly sanitize and prefer to wear something more rugged in my busy days. Its a captivating watch to look it, to the extent that I want to go the gym just to have a larger wrist size LOL. Most beautiful thing about the watch is how the light plays on the bracelet and how the light hits the waffle dial. I just love how smooth the seconds hand is and how it smoothly sweeps. Its just so beautiful, I think Tissot knocked it out of the park this time. My first Tissot and definitely not my last. All in all I should thank myself for seeing it and getting curious about it for the first time. I would wholeheartedly recommend it. I will lay off buying anything anytime soon(hopefully try to at least, we all know what happen) and thoroughly enjoy it. Thanks for reading all of this, I hope it was a good read. and forgive me for not taking many good photos.

Good review.
I like the PRX but the effective lug to lug is too big for me on the bracelet on my 160-165mm wrist. It wears fine though on the leather strap.

I agree, I never thought of getting the leather strap but I’ve heard good things about it. but I wonder how hard it would be to replace the bracelet. Thank for the recommendation.

I tried both the 40mm and 35mm versions yesterday, while the quality was amazing I just didn't feel comfortable with how the case is designed(Though for some reason I find the Seiko "turtle" and tonneau watch case shapes are the comfiest for my wrists)

·

I do love how the bracelet flashes, but doesn’t seem too flashy. If that makes any sense. I think it’s because it’s 95% brushed, but the edges between links are polished so there are little flashes of ligh from just the edges.

·

Replacing the bracelet with the Tissot strap is easy as both have quick release spring bars.
I don’t find the quality of the Tissot leather strap as that good though so an aftermarket alternative might be better.

Funny enough this is the first watch I bought when I reignited my passion for watches recently. (I got mine less than one month ago) I think it's a great watch for the price, but there are a few things I've grown to dislike after wearing it every day:

  • the integrated bracelet really limits your strap options - it's basically the two from Tissot or some crazy expensive 3rd party adapter
  • the bracelet sometimes squeaks when I shake my hand (I guess some links are not lubed properly or whatever). In the Tissot repair center they told me this was not covered by the warranty and I shouldn't worry about it, as it might fix by itself at some point... I wonder if somehow one can buy a replacement bracelet, as on Tissot's site they only sell the leather straps.
  • the bracelet doesn't have any micro-adjustment on the clasp - this means finding the perfect fit is a bit hard. I wear mine a bit loose as a result.
  • the lume is extremely weak
  • the case shape impedes comfort - you can see how the round case protrudes on the bottom of the watch, which makes it impossible for the case to just lie on your wrist and for the lugs to hug it. Not a big deal, but I definitely prefer cases that don't try to fake thinness in this manner.

Overall I love the watch - it's certainly the most beautiful watch I've had to date, but it's certainly not perfect and for my next watch I'll be more careful in my research. Admittedly here I got so excited about the PRX after watching some reviews that I ordered it without having seen it in person.

I love the green version and the way the colors play off the dial. I spend long minutes at a time just enjoying the different shades of color by switching angles of light.  My only observation is that the crown is a tad hard to wind but hardly a deal breaker. Tissot did an excellent job on this piece!

Get the OEM leather strap, it's like $55 which you can buy from a Tissot AD. It will reduce the overall lug to lug and makes it more comfortable to wear on smaller wrists. There is a quick-release system in the bracelet and leather strap so it is very quick and easy to change without any problems.

Some people feel that way for some reason

I loved it too but i didn’t know why, and it makes sense, the edges have the little flashes which catches my eyes

I find it surprising honestly but I’ll look into it thanks

They had the PRX bracelet for sale here.

Great review Thanks for posting! I've looked at this watch for a long time. The thread mentioned putting it on a leather strap - kindnof adds to the intrigue. Beautiful watch!

Love the dark blue sunburst of the 40mm. Based on pictures, it seems to be a different shade of blue than the 35mm, which is the only thing holding me back from the 35mm. I need to see both in person before I make the final decision.

Concise and very clear, I agree with all points mentioned but fortunately, I don't have the squeaky bracelet, and no matter the dislikes I have I'm still in my honeymoon phase.

I would definitely recommend looking at them both.

Thanks but some people commented on the comfort and quality of the leather strap.

The strap when you purchase it new is on the stiffer side, it's quite normal especially when you buy it from the manufacturer. It's a good leather strap for the price and you can just roll it and twist it at the start a bit to soften and make it supple. It will be fine in a week of use.

You can also get higher quality straps. Currently, Delugs is your only option but they cost between $130-200 depending on leather or rubber, with shipping and it's quite high.

These are so great...I'm thinking about a 35mm just because.  I admit the Delugs straps are too expensive but I couldn't resist.

I tried in AD the Tissot PRX blue waffle a few days ago, and it's definitely on my list.

I've had mine for almost a year and I believe it to be a great bargain. It's a great looking watch, particularly the polishing on the applied markers, the case and the bracelet. Fortunately for me, the bracelet fits my 17 cm wrist pretty well though it does push my limit that way. I think this one's probably a keeper though only time will tell.
