Watches going woke / getting canceled

How long before the woke maffia turn their attention to 'men's' and 'women's' watches?

This could be the biggest crisis since the quartz crisis!

Will watches simply be categorised by size? Maybe watches for 'them'?

Will there be endless categories but with all watches in all categories so as not to alienate anyone??

I've been considering identifying as a flip flop, where are the watches for me?

Well, genders for watch sizes would work if all blokes had an 19cm wrist and all women were 15cm. But many don't and want to wear a bigger or smaller piece. So why do we call them men's or women's anyway?

Realistically, nothing about my Longines Zulu Time, at 42mm and a 50mm L2L (for example) makes it specifically for a man, why couldn't a woman wear it?

The Grand Seiko SBGA413 is 40mm with a pink dial. Do either of those facts make it a women's or a man's watch? I'd wear that, my wife would wear that.

This isn't "going woke" it's just being realistic that people can wear whatever the fk they want.

So you support the 'all watches in all categories ' idea? I have no issue with that but it does make finding watches that might suit me a whole lot more difficult

Half my watches are ladies size apparently. Bloody rules 🤣

My pronouns are Boss and Sir.

Does it really though?? On a watch manufacturers website, I would always just click onto all watches and look for things that caught my eye. Chances are, the pieces they've designed for women won't appeal to me, but to some guys, they might. Likewise, some of the "mens" pieces may well appeal to women.

Surely, if you can filter by size and dial colour (let's assume one doesn't like the colour blue, for example), you'll find something that suits easier than just filtering by men's or women's?

There are no rules. They act like there are but come on. If you try to fit the mold you go mad.

Nice one Sir Boss!

Adding an insight from the female perspective here. Personally I don't like most of the watches targeted towards women. Too small, too diamondy, no minute marking, no date window, etc. For me filtering by case size and then see all the watches makes the most sense. Further filtering options such as crystal material, dial colour, strap type, movement are welcome, but those are concrete, measurable features. Gendering of watches was just decided by someone at the marketing department. Damn, just let me chose whatever I like

I heard rumors Omega was considering changing their Moonwatch caseback inscription from “all manned space missions” to “human space flight.”

That would be a bridge too far for me. Don’t mess with the Moonwatch for stupid politics.

·

To me I don't care one way or another. Being up in arms about it either way seems like a good way to choose to be miserable.

Consumers have found ways to find the watches they want that don't fit the "norms" as evidenced by a couple of comments above.

Some brands have already realized this and are making "mens" watches in smaller sizes. I've said a thousand times over, the reason women don't wear watches is...

"women's watches" are small, hideously girlie, covered in diamonds, and rose gold

One of the reasons Cartier and Rolex do so well is that women buy Datejust and Oyster or Tank and Ballon and Pathere. Other brands are figuring out there is a large untapped market of smart watch wearing women with disposable cash to spend on watches that don't like they came with a barbie set

·

I buy if I like the look and the size is 35-40. The verbiage/ pronouns don't influence me to any extent.

So you need a marketing department to tell you what watches would suit you?

This type of post seems antithetical to the spirit of what I thought WatchCrunch was trying to be. Needlessly inflammatory and politically charged.

Celebrating watches, newbies joining, recent purchases, watches spotted in film, discussing their finer points, etc… this is where the positivity of the site differentiates itself from others.

Yeah, I agree with @gentlemanspy and others. I noticed you're new to the community, welcome! We like to keep it positive and fun here. Just a bunch of watch nerds chatting about stuff that excites them, everyone is welcome.

I made a post previously which I believe had been censored as it had 0 comments, or reactions. It was more as you have described above, which I think is why noone has had the chance to see it. I think those in charge are aiming for those qualities you mention. I'm all for that, but I don't think this post is so bad, it's not a serious rant, I don't really want to identify as a flip flop, and some comments are interesting thoughts on watches, watch brands and marketing. Let's all try to be inclusive and remember, you don't have to get involved in any of the posts. Also, it offers something which is a little different. Quite often different is good. Maybe not here in your opinion but quite often it is.

Good point, smaller sizes are available now, I have noticed this a little myself

Thanks for your reply. Another lady watch wearer has pointed out that 'mens' watches are starting to get smaller again, maybe to try and appeal to more ladies like you, which is good.

A safe bet, I'm in trouble here 😬

Oh man, nobody "censored" your post on the watch website. Come on.

And yes, it is understood that you are joking when you said you identify as a flip-flop - the problem is that the point of that joke (and seemingly your post) is that you object to people specifying gender pronouns. We have many trans, queer, lgbtq+ members here, and you are belittling their existence.

The point you are making is not "another different viewpoint" it is, intentionally or not, outdated bigotry disguised as "just a joke."

Please just stick to talking about watches so everyone can just enjoy our silly little hobby here.

I am afraid it’s already becoming an issue. I was banned from Watch crunch previously so this is my second profile. I hurt someone’s feelings when I posted either a fire arm or when I took a watch shot on a hobos back I was placing under citizens arrest

Or, there are no watch rules. But we like to pretend that there are.

Me too, and I have 34-45. I have a 7 inch wrist. I trust the watchmakers to decide what size their watches look best in. My 34 looks perfect in that size and my 45 giant Seiko chrono wouldn't work as well if it was smaller.
