Any watch brands you refuse to own?

This is a new one for me. I like to collect one watch at least from brands I admire and just want to own at least once in my life. So far have owned Rolex, omega, jlc, zenith, grand seiko, Nomos, Christopher Ward, Oris, Casio, Hamilton, tissot, etc. I wanted to add a patek or jlc next potentially. Had a great time visiting so many great boutiques and AD’s while in Munich with one exception, bucherer. We were treated like scum immediately after walking in the door even though we were dressed nicely and have the income and new worth to purchase. Really turned me off to both the AD and patek. I suppose this level of gatekeeping works or they wouldn’t do it, but they lost two customers for life with us!

Hublot

Well yeah me too. Because they hit all their watches with ugly sticks, not because their assholes😂😘😘

·

And for the record, VC, GO, GP, Lange AD’s all super accommodating and accessible. Frankly if I live long enough likely I will own all theee brands. Just never Patek.

Good to know 😃

I couldt believe how many stand alone hublot dealers their were there. They must sell in Bavaria at least.

I initially collected one watch from each brand but then I started collecting multiple Rolex watches. I have never been treated bad by an AD but I don’t frequent them often. In the past I have showed up looking pretty wild with a big beard, sunglasses, a sun hat, a Fanny pack with my pistol in it, and crocs and they always seem cool. I think I portray as someone you don’t want to be rude towards though. I used to be an mma fighter so I give off the aura that if your rude to me you might catch a slap

Honestly, this kind of behaviour really puts me off buying from authorised dealers. I don't know what makes them think they're so f3ckin special, it's not like they're saving lives!

When I was trying to buy an Oyster Perpetual I was given the spiel about how I had to come into their boutique to have "the full Rolex experience" before being able to purchase. I don't need to experience some sychophant kissing my @ss for half an hour in order to determine whether I want the watch. In the end I bought it online & was happy I did.

·

It's more like, cannot afford it 😂

It would be nice for enthusiasts to be able to try watches whether they can afford or not. I could and can and still wouldn’t let me ….

·

Thankfully I do have a nice AD, I have tried the bigger one of the Zulu, unfortunately they didn't had the 39 in stock, saving little by little, I will get it eventually.

·

A brand because of bad service in its A D, no, in Mexico the majority of A Ds are multi-brand (very important jewelry stores), except perhaps Rolex, Cartier and Omega that do have boutiques.

·

Bulova 😂that’s it.

Haha exactly idea

I couldnt afford those brands(Patek, ALS, GO, etc) but I wouldn’t discount a brand because of an AD. They don’t work for the brand, they are just authorized to sell them. There are good AD’s and there are bad ones. To dismiss a brand because of an AD is silly.

25yrs ago I walked into an AD in Denver after leaving the gym. I was wearing sweatpants, hoodie with flip flops and was completely ignored for 20+ minutes, a couple walked in and they were approached immediately. Two weeks later I pulled upfront in my 911 and was greeted at the door! I simply ignored the two individuals who ignored me the 1st time lol I chose a young man that I hadn't seen before, paid cash for a new sub. To be fair I was treated the same way by the Porsche dealership 😑 young Hispanic man can't by shit I guess lol

Yep,we get that sometimes

What brands are those? “Promote”?

To put a fine point on it - all the brands that market their fleigers as having the heritage of having been used by the luftwaffe, are promoting that they supplied watches to the nazi’s.

·

Although I like some of the quirky Patek from the 50s and 60s, the current catalogue just doesn’t vibe with me, despite all the love it gets. The attitude from AD’s is also a massive turn-off. Rolex too, for the same reason. Making more than 1m watches a year does not make something “exclusive”, despite all the black market shenanigans and dodgy ADs. 1000 upticks re no Flieger watches, ugly things for an ugly regime that should banished. Look at the beautiful Omega’s supplied to the RAF, blued pear hands, anti-magnetic, top calibres inside. No comparison.

Awe. I see

I’m generally a “never say never” guy, but I am relatively certain I will never own a Hand Love brand watch.

I can see myself enjoying one of these beauties:

Never heard of them

I try to steer away from brands that sell modified ETA movements at significantly elevated prices, so for now that means brands like Hublot, Panerai, IWC and Franck Muller are out for me. Tag Heuer is also on this watchlist.

Sadly, it seems there are plenty of people coming out of woodwork for whom this would be highly desirable. I hate this timeline

Richard Mille, the Invicta to the rich

·

My good taste prevents me from owning...

1) Richard Mille

2) Jacob & Co

3) Hublot

4) Roger Dubuis (only since Roger Dubuis left the brand...there are some amazing early models when he was still the owner of the brand)

·

None. Love all watches. Don't care much for brands as much as i do for products.

There is a known psychological phenomenon (it has a name, but I don't remember it) whereby people who are treated badly (rudely, with disdain etc) by a brand are more likely to spend with that brand than those who are treated normally. It's to do with making the customer feel excluded and therefore making them feel all the more determined to be accepted and to become part of that exclusive group. It works on basic human behaviours around being excluded or accepted by a tribe etc, but obviously can be coopted in the modern world to.

That doesn't make it OK, of course.

Stockholm syndrome maybe. Either way I do not suffer from this condition😂

·

It’s might just be that Patek AD or those working tThat day. There’s a local shop that carries Patek (among many other brands) and their super welcoming.

·

As much as I like the brand, there’s just too much baggage to owning a Rolex.

·

I can't think of any entire brands that I dislike / would never wear. Only certain models / designs. For instance, you couldn't pay me to wear that awful, Rolex celebration dial. Yuck. If someone gifted me one, I'd sell it, and buy a vintage Rolex, like the GMT Master Ref. No. 16750 😎 And then with the remaining money, I'd go on vacation! 🤣
