Atmos

Hello fellow Watch crunchers. After collecting mechanical watches for decades, I’ve finally pulled a trigger on my first mechanical watch. It will be here next Thursday and cannot wait to see it. Is anyone else also into mechanical Watches or specifically the JLC Atmos?

Well, I am certainly not an expert. I’ve done a good bit of digging before pulling the trigger on one. I didn’t personally feel that the gold plated models were worth the extra money as I think these look beautiful in naked brass. I did learn that the newer movements that most of these have which is the 540 movement is very difficult to service and not quite as reliable as the older 518 and 528 movements. Just something to keep in mind because the older movementswith a YouTube research, he will be able to service and fix yourself. The 540 movement often will be difficult even for Watch Maker . Just something to keep in mind the older models cost just a little more, but it seems worth the extra cost.

Love idea behind Atmos clocks and want one. I am annoyed that they increased in price couple of years ago, but everything went up I guess. Not sure where I would put it so that my gatos do not disturb it

New are very expensive! Used gold platted can be found as low as $2k in good working order. The brass (which I actually think look better) can be found for as low as $500 in good working order. This particular model is a well caught after movement and fully serviced with warranty, So it was a little More expensive than that, but I still think it’s worth it. They actually do tend to appreciate slightly over the years, not hurting anything. I end up, loving it.

I would go for the rhodium one. I am kicking myself for not trying to buy it 3 years ago.
