My Collection

Hello fellow watch lovers, please allow me to share my humble collection. My watch box should be arriving tomorrow, and it will have 10 slots. I have the additional 4 watches picked, I just need to achieve the right business milestone to purchase them.

On the left is my Stauer. when I was 20 and started getting into watches my dad bought this one for me. I know that Stauer is one of the Chinese made brands that some collectors frown upon, but it’s what my dad could afford. What’s more, I love the look of the dial with the blue hands, and 13 years later it still works great.

then there’s my Pontiac watch. My first car brand that I fell in love with was Pontiac. So when I stumbled upon this watch on EBay when I was 22 I had to have it. It was a cheap find at only $25, but the history is what makes this watch so special. I purchased it from Don Bauer, the founder of the Pontiac Oakland Club International. Thtee watches were made in 1997 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the POCI; this was given to Don, and the other two were given to other important members. The dial says “1972 - 1997” so I wear it when driving my 1972 Firebird.

The Movado was given to me by my wife on our wedding day. I don’t think I need to explain more than that why this watch is special.

The Hamilton was left to me by my great uncle when he passed in 2020. It was found, practically unworn, in his safety deposit box. The watch is engraved on the back as it was given to him in 1982 to celebrate his 25th anniversary at Bambergers. He eventually worked his way to becoming the Vice President of Macy’s furniture department. He was very proud of his career, and I suspect that’s why the watch was in his safe.

There is a watch missing in this photo. When my grandfather passed in 2020 I took his Fossil watch. My grandfather was an extremely frugal man, and he wore a $10 Timex for the majority of his life (I could not find that watch). A couple of years before he passed, my grandmother splurged and bought the Fossil for him. He wore it every single day until he died. It’s still packed from when my wife and I recently moved, but once I find it I need to give it a good cleaning and it will likely need a new battery.

The Omega Seamaster 300 GMT is my first luxury watch and I recently purchased it to celebrate my new job and career. I have another post sharing the story about that watch.

The Stuhrling pocket watch was a gift from my wife. For years while we were dating I wouldn’t shut up about pocket watches, and I would look for them every time we went to an antique shop. She was on a cruise with her mother and grandmother one summer and she bought me the pocket watch thinking it would make me stop talking about pocket watches. She was wrong. And I know that, like Stauer, Stuhrling is another one of those brands. But it still works great and it reminds me of how thoughtful my girlfriend, now wife, is.

Lastly, there’s the Omega pocket watch. I recently bought this for a reasonable price on EBay. I’ve begun dabbling with watch making, so the Omega is motivation for me to get better so that I can one day have a beautiful, working Omega pocket watch. Though I may actually try to put this in a wrist watch case as it’s a fairly small movement for a pocket watch. But I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing and reading the stories about my collect. If there’s any piece that you’d like to know more about, let me know. And if you’d like to take a guess at which 4 watches I’ll be completing my collection with, that could be fun.

Great collection and I really like how there’s a story attached to each watch.

Some great personalities in that line up, with backstory that makes them invaluable. Good luck pursuing the final 4!

Watches blah blah blah...wait, you have a 1972 Firebird?!

Holy crap that's cool.

Thanks for showing your watches and giving their stories too, but for me the car is the highlight.

Very nice collection! I love the memories of the watches you were given over time.

My parents use to give me watches on special life occasions. They're gone now. I have grandparents and parents watches along with In laws are in my collection also.

Well enjoy your watches and great memories!

Cheers!

Thank you! I decided if I am going to collect then each watch has to be important and valuable to me in more than just a monetary way. All the watches I have which are not significant to me are for sale.

Thank you! The milestones I have planned to buy the next four are:

1. Finishing my student loan payments,

2. Buying my first rental property,

3. Flipping my 10th property, &

4. Achieving my MAI designation

Two I hope to accomplish within the next 18 months. The other two... probably 5-7 years

Thanks! Yeah cars were my first love. I have a 1972 Firebird Formula 400 that I learned to drive stick in. My dad and I own it, but the goal is to "buy him out" within the next few years.

I also have a 1986 BMW 535i with a 5 speed, and a 2001 BMW 525i wagon that's the "practical classic."

Dad has a 1995 Comp T/A and 1996 Trans Am WS6 which he is selling, and a 2010 Camaro 2SS/RS that we converted into a Trans Am in the garage.

As lofty as my watch aspirations are, they can't touch my automobile aspirations.

Thank you! Yes it's funny when I wear a cheap Fossil or something. People will never know how valuable such a watch is to me... But I am also looking forward to stepping up to higher horology. Maybe when it's my time to go I'll have a few more to pass on.

Love the stories… and the watches! Thanks for sharing!

All about the stories and the hunt. My family is collectors, but not watches or cars (shoot), so starting it off for my little family. I’ll have a lot of salt and pepper shaker sets coming my way though lol 😂

Thanks for sharing!
