Getting Dad Started!
A few posts ago, I shared a bunch of watches given to me by my dad - 12 to be exact.
My dad is not a watch guy, but he still wears a watch everyday; I guess it’s a habit from before cell phones. He’s been wearing the same two-tone Solar quartz Seiko watch for nearly 20 years. Meanwhile, 12 watches that he’s accumulated through life were sitting in a drawer. There were 3 specific watches that my dad expressed interest in keeping, but he said the rest I could have.
A few weeks ago I began the process of cleaning up each watch, polishing crystals, replacing batteries, etc. Two of the 12 watches turned out to be my grandfather’s, both Timex Marlins. I refurbished one of them and made a post about it, the other Marlin needs a bit more work. Three of the watches are not even worth the battery to get them running. So the other 7 I refurbished and added four to my collection that Dad didn’t want back - a Waltham and three Seikos, one which I gave to my wife to start her watch journey.
These are the three my dad would like to keep. After pushing the crown back in the Seiko fired right up, so I just cleaned that. The Benrus winds up and runs nice, so it received a cleaning and a new leather strap to replace the expandable bracelet. The Bulova Accutron is a really neat one - it received a cleaning and a new battery.
I also bought this watch box for Dad so he doesn’t need to store his watches in a drawer again. I already have an idea for one of the empty slots, but it will be interesting to see if he adds anything else.

Thanks! Dad always had good style, I think his watches reflect that. I gave him the watch box with these watches about an hour ago, and his face really lit up when he saw the Accutron.

Thanks! I told him now that he has a watch box he can open it up each morning and try on a different watch. I hope he gets to enjoy these again.
Great starting collection, as soon as you fill up that box the next logical step is to get a bigger box for more watches
