More a returning watch alert

One of my watch regress and I don’t have too many of them was letting go of my Orient Kamasu. I did it as part of an exchange in order to get my Vilhelm, but I’m sure I could have gone with something else and it’s great to have this one back on the wrist. I still think that for the money you won’t get a better diver. I mean look at this dial

Image

Yes there’s a fair amount of text and yes the logo is printed on instead of applied but you can get this for under €300 without looking too hard and with it’s in house automatic movement and very wearable 42mm diameter and 46mm lug to lug and 13mm thickness it looks great and is very comfortable on.

Image

Apologies that this turned more into a mini review especially as I’ve already done a full one on this but I’m very happy to have it back and it’s staying in the keeper pile this time.

Kamasu V2 right?

·

It's a great watch, but for me I still choose the Mako II. I might be in the minority of that opinion, but for some reason the Mako just strikes a chord in me more than Kamasu.

·

One of my favorite manufacturers. I love mine.

Oddly enough, I like the logo despite it resemblance to a cigarette brand logo

That’s fair enough and the Mako II is a fantastic watch but I’m sticking with the Kamasu.

Yeah I think they’re great. To be honest I sometimes look at the Orient Star line but when the more affordable ones are this good I’m not going to make the move up.

I like it to just when people criticize these that’s often what they point to.

The Prodigal Watch returns.

·

I like all three of the entry level Orients, Mako Ray and Kamasu. Now there is that new 40mm one too!!

I didn’t know about the 40mm. That’s a great move by Orient but this size fits me perfectly.

·

I love that case profile. Out of the entry level divers I own, it's definitely my favorite. Orient > Seiko

Agree completely. It would do Seiko some good to take some cues from Orient and what’s with the difference in bracelet quality. Compared to this comfortable bracelet with push pin links my Presage that costs around 3X as much came on an uncomfortable bracelet with the aggravating pin and villar system and only 2 levels of micro adjust. I don’t get it Seiko 🤷‍♂.

I love my orients, I have 4 but I’m really into divers so these are my two favs, i have fitted sapphires to both which really lifts them unbeatable watch for the outlay!

There were a couple of posts on it earlier in the week. A new model in some new colours with a steel bezel I believe

100% agree with you. Anytime there’s a post or someone asks what’s a good affordable or starter diver I point them towards Orient.

Thanks I’ll have to check that out a 40mm Kamasu sounds unbeatable.

Beautiful!!! I love the V2 dials, never actually pulled the trigger on one( I still have the OG kamasu in red on a strap code jubilee). I love orient in general, though. have a highly modded ray ii that I still keep in rotation weekly. I think the only reason I haven’t pulled the trigger on the V2 kamasu is because it would look too similar to my ray.

·

P.S in my opinion, there is nothing wrong with a printed logo at all if done correctly, some of the greatest “high-horology” watchmakers on earth choose to print their logos. While the Orient logo is half printed/half applied, Orients printing is done very crisp and neat even under magnification! Some letter combinations are just better applied via printing.

Yeah I get that.and the Ray looks great. Well done on those mods. 👍

I think the maroon/red dial is such a slept on variant. I love it and have it as well!

Yea, I mean, it's still better-looking than Orient Star logo imo

·

Is mako lll and kamasu v2 same ?

Is mako lll and kamasu v2 same ?

Honestly I’m not sure. I’ve seen the Kamasus labelled as Makos but I’m not sure what the connection is.
