I "got the call" - Is Rolex becoming more available?

So today, "I got the call', which has be the wankiest expression in the watch world, however it's also accurate.

I'm wondering, as watch prices and demand are normalising, whether people think the Rolex base models are also becoming more readily available from AD's? Or if Rolex base models are still extremely desirable? I know they're fantastic quality and the brand is as strong as ever, but is interest in Rolex cooling too?

I have no purchase history with Watches of Switzerland which makes me think people are now declining them and its moving down the list of interested people with no purchase history, I imagine I'm not the first they have called.

I'm interested and do have the cash to make the purchase, but I'm honestly not all that excited, even though its a great watch. I think I'd rather buy another Tudor or Omega next, or am I crazy?

If you aren't excited to buy it, don't.

Yeah, I hear you. I'd no doubt love it and wear it, but I'm pretty happy with what I have for now, but that can change and then I might regret missing the opportunity. I'll probably go and look at it and see how it feels.

They’ve offered it to you now, no reason why they won’t offer it to you in future (especially if you build a bit of a purchase history with them).

·

The question is how interested you are in the watch. Not whether the market is cooling. Could be a no of reasons you got the call. Maybe it was your turn or just that your AD liked you👍

Fair, just remember to make the decision at home after seeing it. Sales staff know how to pressure you into buying, without making it seem like pressure at the time.

Agreed. The market cooling part was more out of interest, but also whether opportunities are really that hard to come by if I decline now.

I say you will have more chanses if the timing isn’t right this time. But what do I know🤷🏻‍♂️

·

Huh? If you aren't excited why would you consider buying it? Honestly curious?

·

That's the exact way I feel. I haven't gotten the call yet, but I'm also on the list for an Explorer 1, and am not sure I'd actually get it if they call me up.

If Omega were to release a new 36mm Railmaster, I'd go for that in a heartbeat, but I just love the Explorer design and Omega doesn't have a comparable model yet

·

I got my piece, the 40mm YM Rhodium dial in 13 months from my AD, not sure if windows of arrival are getting better

I'm sure I'd love the watch, however I just don't feel that excited, which I thought I would, considering it'd be my most expensive watch purchase. I'm relatively happy with my watches at the moment, but as we all know that changes, so I'm trying to establish whether I'm likely to get more opportunities if I decline now, considering that the market is cooling.

·

It's because you aren't interested in the watch that you got the call. If you were interested in the watch, you wouldn't get the call. It's like dating. For some reason, all the girls you don't want to date are all about you but the ones you do don't take a single notice.

·

Well I'm on the list for an explorer and I *do* have purchase history with WoS so I wonder if I'll get a call soon 🤞

Then, why bother? I recently purchased a lot off eBay of 40 assorted NATO straps. I’ve stopped looking at new Watches to purchase. I’ve got close to 100 now. Now I just change out the straps and it’s like getting a new watch every time. 😉 If it’s not something you absolutely love and have been lusting after don’t let them push you into buying something that you do not really, really love/want.

Yeah you should absolutely wait until you decide whatever way you want to go. So I take it you were on the “waitlist” for the Explorer and they finally called and you are no longer sure about it. It’s totally fine to say thank you for the offer, but for now they can pass it to the next guy on the list. Are you on the list for another model? You can say you’d prefer to wait for that one. I’d probably guess that if you turn down the Explorer then you would be fairly unlikely to get another call for that watch after turning it down

·

Depends on the model and your retailer. Most still like to dangle the carrot for as long as they can. Basically blackmail.

·

I've liked a few #rolex models, but after hearing all the stories about the hoops people have to jump through to get one, I'm kind of turned off of them. I find Tudor has more models I like in comparison.

·

If you aren’t excited to buy it, then of course do not, but seeing as you are still looking to buy a new watch, contemplating omega or tudor, I’d suggest you still highly consider the Explorer - Rolex wears much nicer than many other watches. This is of course purely my opinion, and while I haven’t owned a tudor, my Rolex Explorer 1 39 wears better than any omega I’ve owned, and I overall one of my favourite watches to wear.

·

Nope. Your not crazy imho . Seems like some of the crazies have given up with the flipper stuff. So it’s just a watch again. Tudor or Omega sounds good to me.

·

Well yes, I think that's crazy. 😉 But hey - it's for YOU, right? If you don't want it, pass the opportunity on to someone who does.

·

How long did you wait? I’m in the same boat. Name on the list for an explorer 1, 36mm or 40mm however I’m tempted to just pull the trigger on an Omega Seamaster 300M and be done with it!

About 24 months 😅

·

I think I'd buy. Think how great it will look on numerous different straps, and it is a classic. You've got the chance to buy this now - you can always walk in to a Tudor or Omega store and buy there and then (mostly). I wouldn't pass up on it. You don't know when it'll be offered again.

I hate the Rolex wait list bullshit as much as anyone, but unless you really don't like this watch - in which case of course you shouldn't buy it - I think this watch will grow on you because of its simplicity. Boring watches are cool!

Oh wow. Yeah I’m not waiting that long. Kudos to you.

A long time, close to 24 months, is was told probably 12 months.

·

It's not even a question for me. For the price Rolex definitely isn't worth it, if we are talking about technology, finishing and uniqueness, and we skip the flex part. There are much better watches out there even for less. And also what Rolex represents, is not for me. The other part is, how much they are copied? On the street I can't look at a Rolex, a Tag Heuer, or other major brands without thinking: is it even original?

But the main part is, either way: if you love it, you could buy it, and you have no doubts about it, just pull the trigger. If not, just don't, and hunt forward 😎.

·

Depending on the model you can get both an Omega and a Tudor 😊.

Good Lord I don’t know if I could wait that long. I might just pay the extra 1500 bucks for the watch I don’t know.

Interest isn't cooling. Discretionary income is though. Most people aren't excited to spend $10k
