What's your favorite Chronograph and why?

I sit on the fence in regards to Chronograph watches. However I can't deny that these timepieces have cemented their place in horological history, leaving an indelible mark on the watch industry. So with a lack of chronograph watches in my collection (unless you count my mission on Earth - and I don't) I started looking at available Chronograph watches.. Queue the usual suspects....the most renowned models are the Heuer Carrera and Monaco, Omega Speedmaster and the Zenith Chronomaster

Recently I have become more and more obsessed with the Tag Carrera glassbox models the skipper and especially the Reverse Panda Carrera Glassbox Chronograph 39mm. Is it just me ??

Glassbox is absolutely gorgeous! They can be found for a great discount from professional dealers on Chrono24 - so right looks, right price!

·

My favorite is the Zenith Chronomaster El Primero Revival series.

·

Interesting that you ask this today because I’m wearing my favorite chronograph. My Hamilton 38mm, valjoux 7750 but still 13mm tall from the 1990s!

I should add that I had, briefly, a Speedmaster and that one went, but the Hamilton is still here.

I Love OG Carreras, but I can't get on with the modern ones 🤷‍♂️

I do have a thing for Hamiltons and at 38 this seems spot on!

The modern ones never did do it but what about the limited edition 60th anniversary? And the glassbox ☺️

·

Has to be the Speedy

·

yes & i bought the reverse panda to boot! fantastic watch. and it takes on a lot of straps WELL.

I usually prefer the look of chronographs with contrasting sub dials, however I find that they also tend to hamper legibility. Chronographs are my favorite complication, and I use mine for timing all sorts of different things, including events exceeding 1 hour. Based on that, I prefer ones that are capable of recording events up to 12 hours in duration, which means either 3 sub dials, or a two sub dial configuration where one sub dial includes both elapsed minutes and hours, such as the Omega Speedmaster 57 or Speedmaster Racing.

I'd have a really hard time picking a favorite, as there are so many great options. My current favorite is probably the new JLC Master Control Calendar Chrono, but I can't justify spending that much, especially considering it's a 30 minute chrono.

Some of my favorites from my collection are:

IWC Pilots Chrono 41

Sinn 144

Omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow

Omega Speedmaster 3861

Omega Speedmaster 57

Omega Speedmaster Racing

Zenith Chronomaster reverse panda.

My favorites are definitely the old school Carreras and Speedmasters. However, the Daytona is a close third and inspired my current chronograph the Seiko Speedtimer.

Seiko Speedtimer is beautiful watch..I haven't had to chance to try one on I'm sure I'd end up buying one

As ChronoGuy, I'm just beside myself with how to answer this question...

Do I go with precious metal and ultra high complexity (at the same level as ALS and Patek)...then it would have to be my Montblanc Minerva rattrapante in lime gold...

Image
Image

Or do I go with the classic Omega...but in luxurious Moonshine Gold and British Racing Green dial...

Image

Or maybe it's the classy and classic VC CDV...

Image

Or how about being bold...and going with my favorite red dial Carrera...

Image

And I can't fail to mention, the amazing trilogy from Franck Muller x Grail Watch which includes a rattrapante double chronograph...

This could go on all night...but alas, I cannot...

Here is a link to my profile if you want to explore some more interesting chronographs...happy to answer any questions about any of them...

Oh wow thanks for this. Great collection of chronographs I'm definitely off the fence and straight into it.

·

The Heuer Dato would be if they made an updated version. Perfect blend of form and function. But alas it's only available in original vintage which scares me too much on a chrono. Hopefully one day they'll do it!

·

I am very satisfied with my Bigeye Chrono. Never had to look at another chronograph since this piece. Love the look, column wheel, vertical clutch and of course being a Longines, the price! Real value for money IMHO. Just love it! 😉

·

That Carrera is a really handsome watch.

Thanks man. That's attractive yet scary at the same time. A deal that's too good to be true and all that. However, I prefer the blue dial version or the skipper more than the black. Phew!

I actually think it's legit. The card and papers indicate an actual TAG AD. The seller seems legit as eBay standards go. And you also have the Authenticity Guarantee from eBay, which has its own problems but does provide a protection layer with this sort of stuff.

I'd probably want better photos but I am also not exactly putting my money where my mouth is.

·

Thats a good question. I know I may piss some people of but I wouldn’t get a Speedy or a Daytona. I liked the new Longines Spirit Chronograph, I like the Tudor BB Chrono, and the AP royal as well. But lately I’ve been obsessed with the Zenith Pilot Chronograph 😘🤌🏼

·

I’m not a complicated man
