Favorite watchmaking region?

What's your favorite watchmaking region?

Japan - A lot of in-house watchmaking and beautiful dials is what comes to my mind.

Switzerland - Heritage with centuries of watchmaking experience.

Germany - Simplicity, precision and next-level capability.

I feel like this is a tie between Germany and Japan and I really can't say which is better. Japan has more available at every pricepoint but on the other hand Germany has several brands that are making Grand Seiko quality watches. I really cannot chose but I know for sure my favorite region definitely isnt Switzerland anymore.

JAPAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hands down they have such a underdog story always been there with the greats. Competing with Omega, GP, Longines for Chronometer accuracy movements. Also been in the same race for the first mechanical chronograph. Until these day some still doubt their influence in the watch industry.

I voted Japan but I don't have enough experience with watches from other regions to have an opinion on. Most of the watches have roots in Japan

North Korea.

I'll be honest, I don't care about heritage and how long you've been making watches, where they have been or whose famous dog wore them. This is all noise and marketing bs to me.

I only care about the watch right now. How it looks, how it's made and how many times it's marked up to see if a company respects me or not.

So far, the Swiss made watches appear to have the most ludicrous markups which doesn't sit very well with me, so as a value-conscious enthusiast they would be my last choice. Since I am not receptive to their heritage marketing, I find the quality and finishing of Swiss mainstream brands do not justify the asking price compared to Grand Seiko's objective quality, finishing and technology far exceeding their offering at a lower price point.

I'm not partial to many Japanese watches for some reason but generally buy what I like from anywhere it's made.

I own Japanese, Korean, German, British, Swiss, Austrian, American, Canadian Singaporean and Chinese watches at the moment. Who knows what's next? 😎⌚💸

WOAH. Interesting results

Country has not been vital part in my collecting of watches. But if I consult my watchboxes I have to say Switzerland.

·

The good ole US of A. I love all the US micro brands and micro brands are currently my favorite. So for favorite area…. 😉

·

Japan because they disrupted the watch industry in the exact terms tech refers to disruption.

China/ East Asia?

Hear me out: a large percentage of production, and in many cases (get it watch case.. nevermind) the entire “watch making” is performed in this region. While some are arguably terrible, they have constantly improved, especially in and affordable micro space.

Not to mention, “Swiss Made” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yf-3PvjUS8o

*ignore the silly thumbnail, he actually does the math to make a hypothetical Swiss Made watch.

i have to disagree to a certain degree.

most of the chinese watch makers work for brands operating from somewhere else and while they are 100% capable in their craft, when it comes to building an actual brand they tend to be really bad or just make homages. the only big resptected watch brand im aware of from china is Seagull and tbh that name is kinda silly as well 😅

Totally fair point. Originality is def not in their ballpark (maybe it will come with time 🤔)

Funny, I was just looking to add a German watch to my collection (probably Sinn).

From the polk, Japan. Love the research of precision, overall design language, technology, humility.

But I think my real sweet spot is for british brand. I already own two, planning to get a third, love their design, innovation, communication, vibe...
