Pick one brand

If you had to form a collection that was exclusively one brand, for a beater, a sports, a watch for a special occasion, an investment piece, a piece to pass down, etc, which would you choose.

VC, because the Overseas is stunning & to be different.

I get that Subs, & Air Kings are tool watches at their origins, but beater?

·

A and D for the most variety.

There isn’t a Rolex model I own that I wouldn’t wear on a day to day basis, they are much more durable than people think. The only possible exception being my 1908 but that’s purely down to the watch being on a leather strap that isn’t as durable in certain conditions to a steel or precious metal

Guess I'm just not Rolex qualified.

Which I'm fine with.

I’m not gentle enough to deserve a holy trinity watch

IMO people ‘baby them’ too much. They are made to be worn any enjoyed, the same as any watch, no point hiding them away in the safe.

Are we collecting using your money??

I want a $50,000 Patek Philippe beater!

I’ve gifted many many watches to people for certain reasons, presents, surprises and a few to people that had a real passion for a certain model that I had in my collection that didn’t get much wrist time.

But

For the purposes of this poll, it’s assumed people build a collection with their own funds I’m afraid

Maybe at this moment in time, I’m sure you will build the collection you desire in time :)

Says someone with watches from one brand worth more than what I would pay for a car.

You're in a different tier than I am.

I buy a $10K+ watch and I want it to stay PRISTINE.

You buy one and can sneeze at a service that represents what I would spend on a celebration watch.

We are not the same.

Sorry to have intruded.

I've been a watch accumulater since I was growing up in the 60's.

The collection I desire has never included uber luxury watches and I have zero regrets for lo, these many years.

Compared to the holy trinity, I guess Rolex are the shitters 😆

·

Not yet.😊

Watches don't make the grade and can't be considered serious as prized possessions unless they are in the 5 digit range.

And you can thank your Lucky Charms for that.

Oh bummer, so only the one percent can play? I was okay with being exluced from the enjoyment of many watch brands but am I also not good enough to play an imaginary game on a watchforum while I sit on the toilet? Thats too much.😂

Not everyone sells sugary poison to little kids you know, some of us has to do real jobs unfortunatelly.😂

Absolutely not. A £10 watch can be a prized possession just as much as a watch with a higher MSRP.

The value doesn’t make a watch more or less special to somebody that has it in their collection.

The poll was for everyone, just for a bit of fun.

The value of a collection or the desire to build a collection from one of the holy trinity or best marketed watch manufactures isn’t about being in the top 1%, 2%,10% or even 50%. It was about picking one that you enjoy the models, complications, and history of the brands from the list.

And for what its worth, I also work very hard myself too! The lucky charms alias is just a nod to watches being lucky charms/trinkets kind of like the toys you used to get in the cereal boxes :)

We all base our collections on what is available to us from a financial point of view and a ability to aquire perspective. There is plenty of watches I have tried to aquire over the years that have not been able to afford but also that I have not been supplied by the AD.

There’s a point that if some of these watches did make it into my collection, then they would be ‘babied’ and kept in the safe.
