Big News: Credor ready for its global debut? We about to see the arrival of Japan's answer to Patek Philippe?!

Right before W&W, Credor the very last of the Seiko Japan only Haute Horlogerie brands has released an English website. For Japanese speakers, we have been able to read about all these gorgeous unique watches that show off skills such as automata, high end urushi, and engraving. But with the launch of an English website that is still being populated, could this be a hint that Seiko wants Credor to finally become a contender on the world stage? Will we see Credor becoming a mainstream brand and called the Japanese Patek Philippe? Will we see Credor only or Credor/Grand Seiko boutiques open up in the likes of New York, London, Dubai, Geneva, and Singapore where collectors and appreciators alike can finally enjoy that which only those in Ginza could enjoy? Seiko has found great success in spinning Grand Seiko off into its own brand, creating the "Japanese Rolex". Looks like Credor about to get the same treatment.

Wait until people realize what the prices are. :-) Cannot wait to have one.

Rocking a GS in a sea of Rolex and Omega watches in nyc feels sooo good 😊

·

Maybe. GS did the same breaking into North American market a few years back and I certain hold the brand in high regard having owned a few. I’ve handled a few credors and didn’t view either as being superior to GS in any way. Finish, QC, or especially design. Even their new watches seem dated , garish or just simply undesirable. Do you think they will try to position Credor over GS? If so I can’t see how that will go well……at all!

Second hand their are pretty cheap actually

True, for many of the older ones, but the new ones, especially the Eichi ii are still the price of a car.

Most of the Credors are in the high five and low to mid six figures. The 2nd hand Credors out there that are "cheap" credors are "ginza department store" boutique editions/vintages. The cheapest non quartz line is the Kuon currently and thats still $8,000. I'd guess that the Masterpiece and Art Piece collections will be the first to been shown off since they are the big $$$ haute horlogerie lines. I'd also expect Credor to come out with a line similar to Patek's Grand Chime line to show off Credor's skill in complications.

I think this news scratches the eichi I had after March Madness 😅

I get it, but if that design language doesn’t change, I’m just not sure how much appeal it’s going to have to the North American market. Outside of people with more money than they know what to do with that have Hublot and Invicta style taste…..

I don't think Patek Philippe is Credor's market. They strike me more as a Jaquet Droz type of deal. The likes of PP, VC, etc. have their metiers d'art collections and such but it is not their core business.

The Credor stuff was also available to buy here in Europe for a while. You could get an Eichi II without much hassle. There was in fact one making the rounds through the UK, I think the boutique in London technically owned it but it was sent to several retailers and could be bought on the spot, and it didn't sell... it's very niche. Those who were hell bent on getting one always could, and those who aren't won't be sold on one of their watches easily, they are very expensive after all.

Got my Credor Twins (2) from Chrono25..it's better on the wrist than on pictures.

You can see Credor here, Google translate will help you read it. Credor for the most part does nothing for me. I think people outside of Japan misunderstand the brand, because all we see are the über high end unobtainium pieces in their Masterpiece collection. The bulk of their collection looks like this (see link below), and starts at $3,000, hardly unobtainium. They go up to the five digits because of precious metal and bling, not anything particularly special about the watchmaking. These designs do nothing for me. Truth be told, the Eichi, just about the only Credor most people have ever seen, leaves me cold. I've had it on wrist. Yes, yes, I know, hand painted dial, etc. etc., but I don't get the thrill of a hand painted dial that looks like a printed one, otherwise it's a gold case and a sterile design. Call me a philistine. If I'm going to spend five digits on a watch, I'd rather have a high end Grand Seiko.

Doesn’t help that they misspelt English… and they launched it without completed information about their collections. Their Japanese language website is also very slow. For such a high end brand, they could have spent a few more dollars on their web design and function
