Low profile travel watch

Guys, I’m trying to find a watch as I’m the subject. I’m a Tudor fan have 2 of their watches for all occasions, but I’d like to have a “travel watch” which doesn’t draw any attention and not worry about, in case it gets lost or mugged even.

I wanted to get Hamilton khaki field in white, but unfortunately lug to lug of 47 is not optimal for my 15,5cm wrist.

Could you guys help me with some ideas?

CW dune is one option at the moment

Bertucci makes some beautiful field watches. Lots of sizes and colors to choose from and they've been tempting me for a long while. Seiko makes some along that design line as well.

·

I'm a big fan of this world timer from Casio. So is @AndrewMorgan I think it's the A500. I bought mine for around 30€.

Would you be interested in a Timex Weekender 😂

Good choice, but I’d like analog one

I’ve seen so many posts about people getting robbed here and there. Where I live no problem but when travelling…

Bulova good but same lug to lug..

Actually I was looking at north expedition. Good looking watch!

Don’t get the Weekender…get the North Field

·

Timex Expedition North will get you the same kind of look for a fraction of the price. Obviously not the same quality either, but I love mine anyway! I don't know the lug to lug though.

·

Budget?

·

Akin to @SpecKTator, would you be interested in a Timex Expedition Scout 36

There is this version with 42mm which could fit your criteria. Although maybe a black dial would pop out less if that is of concern

It’s actually useful, which in this game is almost unheard of!

Traska Summiteer 36mm or 38mm. Lug to lug on the 36 is 44mm and the 38’s is 46mm. The 38 is pictured below. I have a 15.5cm wrist.

just wear one of your Tudors I would say....you say you´re a fan of them and they are for all occasions.....so...

I was in June on a 3 week road trip through the deep south of the USA (Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, etc..)....I wore my Black Bay GMT the whole trip.......it doesn´t draw attention at all, nobody notices your watch.

And losing a watch.....honestly, how would you lose a watch? have you ever lost a watch? I don´t even know anyone that has ever lost a watch, seems almost impossible to me.....and if so, then it can also happen in your home area....and muggers, well, I think if you use common sense on your holidays chances are higher to be hit by lightning then being mugged....and....if so, this also might happen then in your home area......no need for a "travel watch" is my opinion....use the money instead for a lot of drinks on your holidays 😀😎

Why are tudors not travel watches? You can insure your watches for less than 1% of value per year. So if I feel like traveling with my GS snowflake, omega AT or zenith chronomaster I do it vs my oris or Hamilton that are not insured.

I’m being careful with my BB pro. I travel with it all the time but to certain countries in Asia, etc, I’m a bit sceptical since it’s a gift.

How’s about a Lorier Falcon?

This is my absolute GOTO travel watch. It’s been to Europe, Africa, the Middle East, The Caribbean and most of North America.

42mm?

42mm?

38mm, I try not to exceed 40mm on watches, as that is about as far as will work on my 7” wrist.

·

Go have a look at the collection of Islanders at Long Island Watch. Wery affordable, good designs, great value.

Look at the Mitchell field watches variants, the Northport for divers, the Penn, the Manhasset

·

I would go with a decent micro brand for travel like a Nodus or Swiss Watch Co. Alternatively, a Bulova Jet Star or Citizen Tsuyoba.

·

Have you considered Marathon Officers Mechanical or CWC G10 or Mellor?

Benrus DTU-2AP reissue as well.

Heck you can pick up very good condition Benrus actual issued vintage on eBay.

·

I own the mechanical “officer” version of the pictured Hamilton Field. I traveled with this watch all through Canada, Western Europe, and Northern Europe.

Like most field watches, it’s easily legible, so it was nice to just be able to check time at a glance while changing trains. Also has 24 hour numerals for those timetables that use military time, which was useful in a way.

Khaki Fields generally aren’t flashy, they are fairly low profile, and, for me, mine proved tough enough for work and travel. The long power reserve they have has also been useful.

I own a Marathon as well, which serves as a great tool watch, and I’d recommend one for more robust and outddoorsy outings.

But the slimmer Hamilton it’s just a bit more of a useful size for travel and work. With that large reserve and an easy wind-up I find myself just reaching for it more often.

·

Honestly, any sort of quartz Timex/Casio will fill that niche and then some. I wore a Timex Expedition during my time in the military and served me well (Indiglo is awesome BTW!). Otherwise if you insist on mechanical, then there’s a slew of brands to choose from such as the aforementioned Hamilton. I have a particular affinity for Sinn because they use some interesting tech in their catalog but I would avoid (in general) any watch that looks like a more expensive brand. In other words, stay away from the Sub/GMT Master clones because they WILL attract unwanted attention because the basic design is recognizable across the globe

·

If you have small wrists then you need vintage. Hamilton Seabeach, 1966. Ref 98868. Here is a comparison of 33mm case next to my 42mm Glycine Combat sub on 6 1/4 wrist. 37mm lug to lug. A dream of a watch and just look at that patina 😍

Serica 4512 field watch. 3 dial options, minimal branding, strap king and i consider it a way better case design over the khaki. You can also get the crown at 3 and 9.

This is a solid rec. Serica 4512 is a killer, under-the-radar watch! 🔥

My Bulova Hack is a great piece - the Miyota movement inside keeps great time...

Now that I have a bit more time to write..

I am a rock climber and some of my travelling includes many days in dessert, mountains, and obviously during the climb I won’t wear watches because we jam our hands and feet in cracks. And yes it is quite unlikely that I lose my watches if I leave it in a car, many of my friends car got broken into while climbing, in different climbing areas.

About muggers I kind of agree. Common sense plays a big part yet I don’t always go to the shiniest part of cities also because of the way I travel. So I feel safer travelling with cheaper watches

Nivada Grenchen Super Antartic. Lug to lug is 45.
